How far do I ride for a taco. About 120 miles. I live in Edinburg and I ride a Suzuki Burgman 650. I’ve ridden it almost nine thousand miles over the last eighteen months. Usually I leave my home off Mon Mack and 107 by heading west to Moore field road. Then north to 490. Them right on 490 and straight to business 77. Left on business 77 and voila I’m in Raymondville. Over 28 months I’ve visited three small restaurants and I was happy with them. Monday my usual restaurant the Casa Blanca was closed. Well I was hungry so after refueling my bike I looked for a restaurant in Raymondville.
As luck would have it I spotted Las Mañanitas restaurant and pulled up out front.
I walked in and spied a small table in the rear that was open and freshly bussed (the vinyl table cloth was still wet from cleaning).
A nice young lady asked me if I wanted anything to drink.
Yes. Coffee please.
With coffee she brought a menu.
I selected the Machacado con huevo a la Mexicana. Spicy.
I asked for flour tortillas.
The plate came quickly and was abundant with refried beans and a gigantic flour tortilla. Excellent.
I waved down my waitress and said kudos to the chef. I loved the food but ordered the flour tortillas because some places serve dry store bought corn tortillas. She told me that they made their own right there. I told her I didn’t want an order of corn tortillas but could she bring me one to taste.
About 3 minutes later she set down a piping hot corn tortilla that was crisp and flexible. I took a bite and wow it was hot and delicious.
I waved her down again and said the tortilla was excellent and it reminded me of the tortillas they used to make Sopes or Gordita’s.
I enjoyed a couple of coffee warm ups and walked to the cash register to pay.
My waitress came to take my payment.
I specifically asked for change so I could leave a nice tip.
3 dollars for her. 2 dollars for the cook.
Later a friend recognized the place in a selfie photo I took there.
He told me later that he grew up in Lyford and had eaten there often.
In fact he sent me a text (And the menudo is good there in mananitas ask with it con pata)
I didn’t correct his text message. I believe he said to ask for the Menudo with pig’s foot and hominy.
I’m going back soon. I hope to see you there.
Bon appétit
Pues deveras me gustó mucho la comida en Las Mañanitas. Hay otro restaurantes cerca pero la comida era muy buena y todo el mundo era muy servicial y amable.
Update. Visited Las Mañanitas again this morning 6/4/2022.
After looking at the menu I ordered chiliquiles con huevo. My surprise when the waitress brought me migas. The difference between Migas and Chiliquiles is very simple
Migas are fried corn chips with eggs cooked together with/without cheese.
Chiliquiles are fried corn chips cooked with salsa and cheese with a fried egg (your choice of how cooked) on top.
I mentioned to the young lady that the plate was migas. She said no it was their take on chiliquiles.
I told her that on the menu both migas and chiliquiles were listed.
I told her to take the migas plate and bring me chiliquiles with an over easy egg on top.
With a smile she left.
Minutes later she brought me a very nice plate of chiliquiles with an over easy egg alongside.
Excellent.
Just what you want is smiling service and your correct order.
Thanks
Visited today Sunday 7/16 10:10am because my regular restaurant La Casa Blanca was closed for vacation.
Well i was able to get a table. Mauri the waitress brought me a coffee, glass of ice water and a menu.
Knowing that the Casa Blanca started their Sunday buffer at 10 I asked for a beef enchiladas plate. The young waitress said she had to check with the cook because HERE they still only served breakfast up until 11am.
She returned to say NO! Only breakfast food was available.
Okay.
I said I’ll have the breakfast pork chops with eggs.
I then asked what accompanied the pork chops? I guess the young waitress was perplexed with my English. She asked Meche about it. Meche then pissed me off so I’m leaving. ...

Read moreThis place may be a hidden gem in Raymondville so I’m glad that a friend of mine brought me for lunch. Although it was packed during lunch, service was quick and friendly. Appetizers seemed like home made corn chips and perfectly spiced salsa (more on the hotter side). Also included as an appetizer was a cup of caldo which was a pleasant and delicious surprise! I had the Bistec Ranchero and was not disappointed. Delicious flour and corn tortillas. Next time I’m in Raymondville, I’ll definitely go again and try the ribs and sausage combo. I recommend...
