Hokkaido is, without a doubt, not only the best spot for authentic and delicious Japanese cuisine—it’s easily one of the best restaurants in the entire area, if not beyond. From the first bite to the last, the quality of both the food and the service is consistently exceptional.
We’ve tried a wide range of items on the menu, and genuinely haven’t found a single dish that wasn’t outstanding. It’s become something of a personal challenge to find something that isn’t a 10/10. While Hokkaido shines with its Japanese offerings—think rich, flavorful ramen and incredibly fresh sushi—it also impresses with a broader menu that includes Pad Thai, Lo Mein, and other non-Japanese dishes that are equally delicious.
What truly sets Hokkaido apart, though, is the people. The care and passion the chefs put into every dish is evident, and the front-of-house staff are just as dedicated. They’re warm, attentive, and genuinely invested in creating a great experience for their guests. Every time we visit, we’re treated with such kindness—it makes the beautifully decorated, cozy space feel even more welcoming.
We were so impressed by their hospitality that we asked if they’d consider hosting a private event for a bridal shower, and they didn’t hesitate to say yes. Even though it was their first private event, they handled it seamlessly. Our guests couldn’t stop talking about the food and the service—even the pickiest eaters left happy (the Lo Mein comes highly recommended!). They easily made allergy accommodations for guests with shellfish and gluten allergies.
Hokkaido is also one of the few places where the quality of the food does not suffer when ordering it as take-out - the food is just as good at home as it is in the restaurant, although you miss out on the atmosphere, which is a special part of the dine-in experience.
We truly can’t recommend Hokkaido enough. Even if you’re not usually a fan of Japanese cuisine, there’s something here that will win you over. It's a restaurant we return to again and again—and each time, it somehow manages to exceed our...
Read moreIn short: Putrid, inedible ramen.
I am writing this from the bathroom, stomach churning, legitimately worried about leaving the room. Like the other reviewer here, I was shocked at how rancid the ramen was. To the point that I'm surprised anyone would be comfortable serving something that smelled so bad.
The beef yakitori was fantastic so we had high hopes from the start, but boy we were sickened by the end.
My wife ordered the tonkatsu ramen and I ordered the chicken katsu ramen. Hers smelled like straight sewage. Mine had a little funk at first but I didn't think it was bad at first (the chicken itself was actually quite good). But as I got down deeper into the broth it started smelling and tasting very wrong. [We think it was whatever the mushrooms were (which were NOT listed in the ingredients on the menu by the way) See edit.].
Neither of us ever food back, but we sent hers back this time. I got too far into mine to reasonably send it back.
Because the review wouldn't be complete otherwise: Service was fine. We were mostly left alone. The waiter did promptly remove the ramen we sent back. Atmosphere was cool, with manga-inspired wall hangings. One point off because the icing on this vile cake was that the same song was stuck on loop on the radio the entire time we sat.
Edit: Per the restaurant: what we believed to be mushrooms were apparently bamboo, which in fact was listed on the menu item. This is strange to me because bamboo we've eaten previously had a mild,...
Read moreGreat atmosphere, friendly attentive staff. The tastiest bowl of Ramen that I have ever had. I ordered the Takoyaki appetizer and the Spicy Kimchi Ramen. The Takoyaki was amazing! The octopus tasted very fresh and high quality. The bonito flakes on top were very flavorful and the eel sauce was exquisite. The ingredients in the Kimchi Ramen were also of high quality. The kimchi was so delicious and even the bamboo shoots tasted so good. I have never tasted bamboo this delicious before. The soy marinated egg was the best that I have ever tasted as well. The chashu was very tasty and smoky. The corn was fresh and added a nice crunchy element to the Ramen. The miso broth was very enjoyable and spicy. Finally the noodles were excellent. They were nice and chewy and tasted fresh. I would guess that they are made in house. I wish that I could thank the chef in person. The meal made me very happy and satisfied. I will definitely be coming back every time I crave some Ramen. I will highly recommend this restaurant to my friends and family and coworkers or anyone who...
