I recently moved back to KCMO after spending 8 years in Minnesota and finally had the chance to return to Shanghai Express... I cannot believe it. After 8 years the quality of ingredients and the restaurant itself has retained the standard that used to make this a regular quick stop on my way home from a long day. Find your favorite and you'll make sure you find your way back. Update: 10/08/2024 Drive-Thru Lunch I had Shrimp with Lobster Sauce, brown rice, which came with a Crab Rangoon. I also ordered the egg drop soup, this was the first time having the soup as the last time it was sold out, but I had gone right before close. The Shrimp with Lobster Sauce was 10/10 very savory and all the proper flavors. The Crab Rangoon was very delicious, and had a nice crispy crunch and plenty of filling. The egg drop soup had a nice flavor and texture, not too much egg and plenty of broth. The amount of soup for the price is quite surprising. A great deal for the price. I recommend the restaurant and everything I ordered.

Edit 04/2023 This place has had to raise prices a few times since I started coming here but they are still among the least expensive in the area and absolutely a great value. The food is great and everyone complaining about shrimp is going to have gout in a few years because they've always given plenty of shrimp. Portions are huge, and easily 2 meals unless you're high AF and eating everything in sight. Service is always quick, even when there's a long line, and staff is always friendly. Every. Single. Time. Just don't be a racist Karen and you will be fine. ------- Edit: menu picture as of 07/19 ------- Fast service, HUGE portions, and seriously you can't beat the snark in their responses to lame reviews. Try the wonton soup! FYI: menu prices are out of date. Most things have gone up a few to 50 cents. Still a good deal

Take out only. They do make fresh to order. Drive thru is a nice feature. They have pretty ok sweet and sour chicken. The crab Rangoon has no crab in it but I actually prefer that because I love them but am allergic to crabs. They do not give fortune cookies here - sad kitten. .... Update 5.6.24 This place has been my favorite spot for over two years. Lately it just isn't the same. Around the time they started closing on Sundays the quality went way down. The taste is just different.

Horrible experience on 9/18/21. I asked if they would wrap my container in plastic she said no they don't have plastic but the have foil. Last weekend my chx in garlic sauce spilled in the bag. (I sat the bag carefully on my front seat but it spilled). It was a mess. When I got to the window to pay. The woman was snoty and said the chef will do it this time but no more. I said what? I only want it wrapped so it doesn't spill ahe said we'll give you less sauce. I replied I like the sauce I dont want less sauce. She got mad said they are busy and that's what the chef said. She then said you know I cancelled your order. Gave me back my credit card. I was turned away!!!!! I said you have got to be kidding?! There was no yelling she was mad and all flustered I spoke in a normal voice and was shocked by her reaction to my request. My 12 YO grandson was super disappointed. I remembered my neighbor loves Mama China. We went there. Their entrees are 1 dollar higher but it is a much superior restaurant! The steamed dumplings are twice the size and u get 10 per order. They use nice to go containers with secure lids. Their crispy chx wings are super good!! I'm very glad I was turned away by Shanghai Express. Good riddance!!Mama China is far better and they have longer...

Hello I visited the location on 10/10/22 6pm and I have been coming here for years. The only problem I ever had was that I was shorted extra shrimp that I had paid for but went back and was given the shrimp with no problem. I like the place a lot and the people are very nice. I can afford to eat out everyday if I want and I don't want any free food. The problem I had was the MooShu chicken smelled and tasted a little burnt and the two egg rolls were burnt very bad like they were fried three times. I have never got bad food from here ever until now. Believe me I know Chinese food and what it's supposed to taste like. I mainly wanted you guys to know. Fyi Mama China's food use to be real good years ago you don't need to worry about them but you do have competition close by that gives 35 percent more food for a cheaper price and the food is always very good. I just wanted to let know and $16.06 total for MooShu Chicken and two egg rolls is kinda pricey for sub standard food. I will wait a few months and give you another chance. Thanks hang in there and be positive I only want to to be and stay successful a lot of good places are going out...

SHANGHAI EXPRESS IS A DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH. ON THE OUTSIDE IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE MUCH... BUT JUST WAIT AND TASTE THEIR FOOD, IT IS AMAZING!!!! THE INSIDE IS VERY CLEAN AND ORGANIZED. THIS BUSINESS IS FAMILY RUN. THE PRICES ARE VERY AFFORDABLE. GIVE THEM A TRY... YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!!! KUDOS TO THIS FAMILY AND WHAT THEY BRING TO OUR NECK OF THE WOODS. THERE IS NO DINE IN SERVICE, HOWEVER THEY DO TAKE ORDERS OVER THE PHONE AND EXPECT 20-30 MIN. THE FOOD IS FRESHLY MADE!!! I have been the caregiver to my husband after a massive surgery, I found this place when I had to much on my plate to cook. We both do not really care for fast food. This is soooo good, That it has become my go-to!!!

Reviews these days can be tricky... judge for yourself I read some other reviews.. every business is going to either have their competitors or someone who wants something for nothing, and try to cast a bad light on this place. Just Don't judge this book by it's cover... Go there and see for yourself!!!

Warning: This may cause you to become addicted. We are hooked!!...
