Summary: Food is pretty good. Service is alright. Lots of 2 hour parking across the street and a few spots in the diner's lot. Value is pretty good as far as quantity/quality for the price. I'd eat here again.
I went here with a friend for dinner on a Wednesday evening before our second PADI class. He had come previously for breakfast and enjoyed it enough to want to come back again. We found a couple of parking spots across the street and walked over. We came in the side door and I realized the place was actually pretty big inside.
We rounded the corner to the front and had a seat at the end of one of the long table. Soon, we were greeted by our server. She took our drink order while we looked over the menu. When she came back, my buddy asked for a bottle of the salsa they leave out on the tables during breakfast time. I guess he's a big fan. We then ordered, and here is what we got.
Salsa Burger with curly fries - This is what I ordered. There wasn't much salsa on the burger, but there was a little bit of the spicy ranch dressing. That stuff was really good. I had to add salsa from the bottle and some ranch on the side to help compensate for the burger being somewhat dry and overcooked. With the added ingredients, the burger was quite tasty. The curly fries were also really good. They had a nice texture, were pretty tasty, and went well with the ranch and ketchup.
Tex Mex Bowl with corn tortillas - My buddy got this. It looked like a standard burrito bowl with rice, beans, chicken, salsa, etc. He added a bunch more salsa from the bottle to enhance the flavors but seemed to enjoy it in general.
After we got our food delivered, we weren't visited again by any servers to ask if we needed anything else until they brought the check. They don't collect the check, so you have to make sure to bring it up to the register. The place was moderately busy throughout the meal, and there was a decent amount of staff present, so I get the feeling that the level of service is generally how most recent reviews have assessed it: so so. Despite that, I enjoyed my meal and would consider...

Joe's is no longer my "I'm by myself" place to go. I stood in line , as a single guy, for over 10 minutes, I finally asked, "How are single parties handled". The response was, you wait in line with everyone else, 4, 5, 6 parties. What happened to the "old Joe's" where you were just directed to grab an empty spot at the picnic table, and engage in a friendly exchange with complete strangers. THAT'S the Joe's' I used to know. They DID reopen half the counter, from the lasts time I was there. I'll never be attempting that again. Hope they stop changing things.
Guess I'll be doing Eat at Rudy's on the weekends for my solo meals. btw: I hear that Rudy's was formed by Joe's original chef. The John Wayne tastes just like I remembered in 30 years ago :(
POST SOMETIME IN 2022______________ Modification to original post.
After 25 years, NEVER had a single complaint. Today I went solo, to eat at the counter. Management told me they decided to shut down the counter on Sat and Sun. What a slap in the fact to my beloved Joes. Guess everything changes, even Joe's. The food was still great but...
