This is the best pizza I’ve ever had in my entire life. Period. And I’ve had pizza from hundreds of places all over the US. I grew up in Winchester Bay and used to eat here once a week back when it was Pizza Ray’s, and moved away just before it became Bedrock’s. Last month I finally travelled back to Oregon with my fiancé and this was literally the first place we ate at on the coast. I spent two decades worrying about how the new proprietors would run it, and I can say with complete certainty that it is as good or better than it has ever been! I am immensely proud of the management for keeping the quality sky high even after all this time. And my fiancé agrees — the pizza here is unlike anywhere else.
It’s the best possible rendition of an “Oregon Style” pizza, which has a laminated crust and light application of thick sweet tomato sauce. The bottom most layer is thin and crisp, allowing the pizza to defy physics and not bend at all when held by the crust, even with the largest size pizza. We got the Supreme Combo, which is what my family always used to get when we lived around there. It’s phenomenal hot and phenomenal cold — it’s just wonderful. I’ve had half a dozen other Oregon Style pizzas in the Eugene corridor, and this just blows them away.
I highly recommend anyone passing through to stop by and try their pizza. I recommend it so highly that I have a free-standing offer to most of the people I know that if they’re ever in the area, I will personally pay for their pizza (just so that they have no reason not to try it). It’s that good. Parking is practically unlimited (as there’s a ludicrous amount of parking in Winchester Bay), the town is adorable, and the people working there are just the best. They do breakfast, and I can attest that it is great cozy diner-style food. We ate there probably five times in the month we spent on the coast and we’d do it again in...
Read moreWe couldn't find the place I had planned on going so went here. WONDERFUL fish and chips! Excellent food at average prices for the area. The loss of one star was for BAD customer service when we walked in. We had never been here before and when we walked in the girl stood behind the counter and just looked at us. Didn't say a word. I could see the tables, I looked for a sign that said 'wait to be seated' or a sign that said 'order here' but none that I saw. I was obviously confused. I asked if we order here or sit down first. She told me to order here like I was slow and had been told dozens of times before and kept getting it wrong. The food gets them the stars. They have larger fries than anywhere else we went on the coast and I liked that. The fish was great, large pieces with nice batter. We mostly got the Cod, one child got the Halibut as she was not a fan of fish to begin with, and she was able to eat it. Their price on Halibut was better than other places we went to later. I thought the Cod was great and didn't need the Halibut. Note on clam chowder... Everyone has the "worlds best chowder" Some is more clam and some is more potato soup like. This is a subjective thing and up for each person to judge. By my mouth, this place has the best ratio of clam to potato soup. This is the only place we went that I would order the chowder again.
By the notes from the owner to other people, it looks like he/she cares about the place. If you do something about your counter staff and the level of friendliness they show to their job security (customers) your place would be top notch!! [By the way, are you aware that your place doesn't show up on google maps (restaurants near Winchester bay)? I had to look you up by name to find you to do this review.]
We also went to the place on the boat the next night, and if I were to come back to the area I would come...
Read moreDisappointed After 10+ Years of Loyalty** I’ve been coming to Bedrocks for over a decade—at least 3 times a year—and have always looked forward to our visits. Unfortunately, what happened on Friday, May 25th, at the Winchester Bay location was enough to change that.
We came in with a group of about 24 people and ordered meals individually. My husband and I were second in line to order. The co-owner took our order, and we moved along as usual. After 30 minutes, everyone in our group—and even others who ordered well after us—had received their food. We still had nothing.
I went up to speak with Robin, a staff member we’ve always liked, but before I could say much, the co-owner (who had taken our order) interrupted. When I explained that we hadn’t received our food, she first said the order hadn’t been turned in because she was tired and had been working all day. Later, she changed the story, saying the kitchen had "lost" the order.
Eventually, about 8–10 minutes later, our buzzer finally went off—but the entire order was wrong. At this point, our group was leaving for ice cream. I told the co-owner that our food was incorrect, and her response was to raise her voice and ask, “What do you want me to do?” I calmly asked for a refund since we hadn’t eaten and were leaving to rejoin our group. She refunded our meal, but refused to return the 20% tip I had added at the time of ordering.
It’s disheartening to see how much the service has declined. Just two nights before, our group spent $376 on pizza at Bedrocks. I’ve worked on 100% commission for 23 years—I’d be out of business if I treated my clients the way we were treated.
Mistakes happen. But how you handle them makes all the difference. Sadly, after many years of loyalty, I won’t be returning—and I doubt the rest of our group...
