There once was a time I could not have possibly foreseen myself ever giving this Local Favorite of mine for many years (at least 20 if not 30 years) I have been going to Reid's every chance I could to eat. The staff was always polite, courteous, helpful, considerate, friendly, kind AND well mannered. The food was always cooked just right and delivered with a smile, necessary drink refills and condiments as requested or generally served with the entree ordered and usually as a patron, I was also asked if there was anything else that could be brought for me and if everything looked ok.
Not so this time. To be fair, I realize we are in the midst of a pandemic. I realize everyone has "a bad day". I know I could have kept my money in the bank however, after not eating for approximately 72 hours in preparation for a medical procedure and being so "hangry" AT THAT VERY MOMENT after the procedure, I chose to offer my driver (my Mama) a meal at Reid's House as my treat in appreciation for her driving.
This of course seemed preferable than waiting an additional 45 minutes before we would return home then another 15 to 30 minutes to decide what I would be able to eat since my diet was rather limited in a sense due to my taste buds and how my throat felt from anesthesia tubes. Reid's House has an esteemed and well deserved reputation. The fact this diner serves breakfast at lunch and dinner just appealed to us even more.
From the Annie Penn Hospital to Reid's House we excitedly went. Neither of us eat out often because I enjoy doing most of the cooking at home for the both of us and spending a few dollars here was going to be worth it in my mind even though Mama tried to talk me into just going home and fixing something there as usual
Tsk, tsk, tsk. Beware expectations, you are inevitably setting yourself up for disappointment - isn't that kind of how the truth of reality finds us often? Disappointed? I found myself disappointed in the staff and owners of Reid's House on Monday 9 November 2020 when my Mama and I dined in.
They weren't very busy but all of the booths we taken as well as the counter seats (keep in mind there was limited capacity due to Covid-19 restrictions and requirements. A fellow patron of Reid's House who was dining alone was kind and vacated the booth he was occupying alone to allow Mama and I a place to dine. That's the hospitality Reid's House is known for - customers are humane and kind to others.
The waitress was decent, not quite top of her game that day but, by far the best staff member on duty during our visit on Monday 9 November 2020. I will not encourage anyone to go there again nor will I be returning - my food was cold but way overcooked, dried out and burnt bacon, raw undercooked egg, overcooked hash browns, coffee that wasn't very fresh, toast that was barely warm yet almost burnt with butter pats kind of stuck to both sides plus a barely done waffle (this was just my order).
If the food wasn't bad enough, the one that "seemed to want to be the one in charge" who took my payment for food was Abso-flippin-lutely so rude had it not been for yet another well meaning good customer, I am not certain I could have been responsible for what may have happened next.
I would welcome the opportunity to speak with management about the team on duty this particular day - I still have my receipt. I doubt seriously they would be pleased.
Eat out cautiously and spend your money where your are treated...
Read moreAfter waiting 30 mins for a table, mainly because there was this one woman sitting in the booth alone when th sign clearly said "please leave booths for 2 or more" anyway waited 30 mins to a place to sit place our order for just 2 people, my daughter got an egg sandwich, I ordered 3 eggs scrambled with toast and jelly with fries for the side since you ate paying for a side wether you want it or not waited another 30 mins or so when the food arrived my eggs were BROWN I do not eat brown eggs they are burnt in my opinion and I have always been this way, no toast came with the food order, was told it was coming(mind blowing that the toast took longer) so I did move the eggs around to see if maybe it was just a small portion that was brown and no all the eggs was brown so I kindly asked the waitress to take them back and bring some that was not burnt , she was very kind and did so after waiting yet another 30 mins and my daughter has been done eating her egg sandwich my new plate finally arrives they looked much better however I was like where is the toast, she said oh yes I'm getting it she brings me cold toast with butter smeared all over it th toast was not even warm enough to melt he butter not even just slightly thus was because the so called cook gave me the old toast from when I had first ordered almost an hour prior to getting my food. By then I was just like forget it if ya can't fix toast you shouldn't be on the grill we had done been there for an hour and a half and they wasn't even busy by this point I wasn't waiting another 30 mins for toast and eggs I just sent it all back. I wished the owner had been there he would have never had allowed this kind of conduct to occur the cook put my sent back order last is why it took so much longer and the restaurant had cleared out it was the worst experience I have ever had at reids house and I don't think I'll be going back no time soon. What has happened to all the good restaurants in reidsville I mean if you can't make toast you really should not be on the grill but I think she got an Attitude simply because I refuse to eat burnt eggs and the bill for an egg sandwich, 2 confess and water was $11.77 NOT WORTH IT NEVER AGAIN will I walk through those doors of reids house. I am extremely...
Read moreOnly my second time dining here. The first was great. The second was equally great, other than when I went to pay. I was confused with another customer and handed change when I hadn’t paid yet. This was no problem as the man beside me quickly said it was his bill. When it was my turn, I asked for a to-go soda. Which is free at literally any other establishment. I had to go on to explain I requested it for my cousin who was already outside in the car. With an empty cup obviously because nobody in my party got refills. So this would’ve been a refill coke I was being charged for. After being told I had to pay I went on to say, ‘never mind, I don’t want it’. Didn’t wanna make a big deal. The waitress, ‘moo’? Said to me, “when you order something you typically pay for it” “now let’s just waste a drink” and just proceeded to make smart comments about the to-go drink that shouldn’t of been a charge in the first place instead of just checking me out for my 4 dollar meal. After this back and forth went on for what seemed like forever I finally said, “this was otherwise a great experience you’re making me not even want to pay”. I guess all she heard was “oh so you’re not gonna pay now” like went full Karen on me like she was ready to call the cops or something. No, I had a great experience other than paying with you because you made me experience anxiety and embarrassment over a...
