As a North Carolinian I’m embarrassed. This is the worst bbq in the state. I still can not believe how bad this was. The staff attitude was great warm and inviting, but the BBQ is god awful. After a very long and stressful day I decided I wanted some good ‘ole bbq. The only place in Reidsville is Short Sugars, 1st strike was there is absolutely no pit smoke smell inside or in the immediate outside of this place, 2nd strike no RIBS. I should have went with my instincts, but I was hungry and tired. I ordered a large bbq plate. I promise you if I was a petty person and did not believe in people at times I would have reported what I’m about to say. The meat on my try is spoiled so bad that I had to spit the first bite out. Someone needs to check that meat before people get sick. I got my food around the 6:00p hour and I’m sure I’m not the only one who encountered spoiled meat. The one star is for the staff other than that this place is a 0 out of 5.

Took the long, twisty country road route from Durham today specifically to eat lunch here after seeing this place mentioned in Our State magazine. It did NOT disappoint. Great space. Fantastic service and the food was most excellent. I'm trying to stay away from fried foods so instead of a platter w/ fried and hushpuppies I just got a half pound of sliced bbq and a cup of pinto beans. Really good bbq and quite possibly the best bowl of beans i've ever had. The breakfast menu looked really good and i'd be up for another trip just for that. Maybe next time on our way to the mountains. Also, ribs only served later in the day --- another excuse for another trip up that way.

You know it is going to be good when you pull up smelling the smoke then open the door and the first thing you hear are those cleavers chopping that smoked pork. Delicious. An NC legend and rightly so. The pork was perfectly smoked, moist and tender. The hush puppies were a golden brown and cooked to perfection; not overcooked and crunchy like so many do these days. The sauce was perfect validating the reputation. The tea was sweet and the staff was fantastic with full on Southern hospitality that only true southerners know and appreciate. Can't go wrong here for that good NC piedmont BBQ with a solid nod towards the eastern NC vinegar based BBQ.

I was thrilled when I called and was told that you guys serve lunch items early morning. I work 3rd shift and the takeout options are limited in Reidsville in the mornings. Who wants biscuits for supper? I have been to Short Sugars many times, but this was my first time coming inside. It was clean. The waitress who greeted me was friendly. I called in my order and got my food in the exact time the waitress said. I had ordered the teenage burger and fries. When got home and ate the food, it was delicious. Only complaint I have is that the burger needed a little more seasoning. Other than that it was fantastic. Update: 3:20pm 9/22 I called in my order. My 2nd time going inside I forgot there was a separate area for takeout. I assumed it wouldn't be an issue. The waitress was chatting with a couple so I sat and waited a minute. Got up went to the register. She came up and I said I had a pick up. She then told me that I had to go outside and enter the takeout. I said so you are going to make me go out and come in again. She said yeah. So I walk around to the takeout to pay come inside and the same waitress is walking around eating a piece of bacon near were they cook. Also, it was not busy at the time. So I was curious why she made me walk back outside and come back in. Could of just reminded me where to go next time and had whoever take my payment? The lady at the register was not rude, but wasn't very friendly. The food was on point again, but everything else was lacking this time. So this is the reason I took a couple of stars off my review...

Worst BBQ I have ever had! We just moved to the area and this is the only BBQ place in town. Portions are ridiculously small. I ordered the week day special; chopped BBQ, slaw and hushpuppies. The basket that you get sides in was the same basket that my chopped BBQ and slaw came in - 1 basket half pork half slaw. This wouldn't have fed a child. Speaking of kids, even my kids couldn't find anything they liked about this place. The mac-n-cheese was overcooked, not burnt but the noodles were WAY overcooked, and no flavor. My husband ordered the rib dinner with a side of beans. The ribs were obviously cooked in the oven and the sauce was watery. The beans tasted like canned baked beans nothing special. The house salad was toppings for a burger lettuce tomato pickle and cheese why even bother or at least put hamburger in it and call it a cheeseburger salad. Slaw was worse than store bought. Hushpuppies were the only decent thing at our whole table. 2 adults 2 kids $57 and we had to feed the kids when we got home because the food was so bad. My family won't be returning we will make the drive to another town to...
