I would have given it a 5 except we were moved moved UNGRACIOUSLY, to another table because our time limit was up.
When we made the reservations we explained that we hadn't seen each other since before the pandemic and so we would be awhile And wouldn't necessarily be able to adhere to the 2 hour reservation rule. The employee stated that that would be fine and that we would just have to move to another table in the back if they needed our table for another reservation.
This was confirmed again when we got there, that we could move to another area if they needed the table.
Now when it came time to move then the waitress just slammed a "Reserved for 5 PM" sign on our table Without saying a word as we had obviously not been paying attention to time. At that point we told her that we were told we could move to another area and We're happy to do that now. However, she said she didn't know who told us that and that wasn't true but she would "look into it". Now why didn't she look into that FIRST instead of being rude in your tone????
She came back and said that we were right and that she was unaware of that, which I could totally understand that part, but what I couldn't understand is her rudeness. Hence the three out of five star review.
Once we remove them we had a different Waitress who couldn't have been nicer and tried to appease the situation. There were plenty of tables for us to stay all night if we wanted to in the back room. From then on, the night went really well and we didn't have any more issues.
Food and wine are excellent but ONE of the servers needs to be retrained on what is the optimal way of...
Read moreOh how I love coming here. My first time at Vines was a bit over a year ago. I was looking for some new wines and wanted to avoid the corporate stores in hopes of finding something more foreign. I was in for a treat with Whispering Vines on west fourth street.
Their selections and qualities are unmatched. So much variety. So many good choices. They carry a bit of everything. Their pricing is fair. I’ve probably purchased over 30 bottles now. Most of the time, I’m buying a bottle to drink it shortly, however I have snagged a few that I’m keeping for the long term.
My favorite way to drink is by getting a flight. Three short pours of a themed flight. In the photo I have the bubbles flight which for this week was (in order left to right) an Italian Prosecco, a Sardinian Dry Rose, and champagne brut rose. They have a ton of different options and they’re all price very fairly. (Zoom into the photo to read the others; lots of choice here and the bottles change about every week)
They also have a bar and serve beer, spirits, and cocktails. Their spirits selection is also very impressive with a variety of choices for different alcohols.
The food selection here is also pretty damn good. I’m quite fond of the angus beef burger. It’s a safe and satisfying option. It’s always a great choice. My other favorites are the schnitzel and the Korean short rib tacos.
Basically, come and try. Want a nice meal out with wine? No better choice in town. Want to buy a bottle you’ve never seen before? You’ll probably find it here. Need a nice venue for a date? Stellar choice.
Enjoy responsibly because trust me, you won’t...
Read moreThis sure isn't a San Francisco wine bar where you have to be working on your Somm certificate to serve customers who can afford a $100 bottle of wine. No here they advertise jobs with no previous experience required. They do want you to be able to multi-task, which I guess means doing chores while igoring paying customers based on what I have seen. The staff here don’t know a Bordeaux from a Beaujolais. They are totally untrained in wine knowledge and they have a high turn over. You could come here 100 times and no one will remember your name or what you like to drink. Some of the staff are down right rude and will talk to you as if you work for them. You will never find a manager or the owner onsite, and if you contact the owner about an issue don’t expect to get a reply. Their business model is to sell you a drink and a half every time that you order. At first when you see on the menu that they pour 8oz of wine you think that sounds pretty good. A usual pour at most bars is 5oz. So you have your usual 2 drinks. Then you get your bill and see that you spent almost $50. You pay and walk to your car and realize that you're a bit woozy. Those two 8oz pours equal 3 regular drinks. If you decided to have 3 drinks you just drank a whole bottle. Maybe you should get a ride but no one offered that to you....
