Michelin level dining has arrived in Reno. At Claio, you know you're in for something special from the moment you set foot in the door. The ambiance of the dining space is perfectly curated with mid century modern decor, pastel colors, great attention to aesthetic detail, and a vinyl record selection clearly curated by a staff who have done their homework. It's the perfect setting to contextualize incredible cuisine.
I had the Crispy Octopus, Chickpea Hummus with Rotisserie Lamb, and the Keller Craft Oregon Lamb with the Souvlaki addition. The Crispy Octopus was the first dish I received, and it immediately lived up to the level of culinary excellence demanded by the beautiful dining space. The texture of the octopus was incredibly pleasing: a thin, crispy outer layer with a ridiculously soft and meaty interior. The flavor was all there as well: buttery umami balanced out by wonderful freshness and acidity from the lemon and Toum sauce. The Lamb Hummus was equally immaculate, with the bright punch of mint and red onion complementing the darker flavor of the lamb chunks. It's worth the splurge to upgrade from the regular hummus. The Lamb main course hit again. Served as a portion for two, The Lamb is cooked to a lovely, juicy medium/rare. The Toum, Harissa hot sauce, and tzatziki provide many flavor combinations for making your own customized Souvlaki with fresh greens and tomato on delicious home-made Pita.
The modern take on Mediterranean cuisine at Claio is nothing short of excellent. I found the overall restaurant experience transcendent and exciting, akin to dining at Michelin recognized restaurants in Chicago or New York City. Claio has finally brought that level of culinary excellence to Northern Nevada. I hope they are the first of...
Read moreLatest Update: they fixed their issues for the most part! I’ve ordered takeout a few times recently and it was great (minus one order missing the pita, not a huge deal). So glad they turned it around!
Update: the last 5 times we’ve ordered and picked up, the food was awful. Every single time the chicken was old, dry, and hard. The pita was old, cracking, and covered in partly cooked flour. The lamb was gristly. I called to let them know so they could hopefully get it together and stop the downward slide, but they were indifferent. Super bummed at the rapid change, we’ll try again in a couple months to see if they go back to their original awesomeness.

Original Review:
This is the same group as Perenn, so I had high expectations and I was not disappointed! We ordered the works (Family Package) for takeout - a whole chicken, hummus, salad, pita, etc. I don’t really know where to start because everything was so good.
The hummus was in a big container topped with crispy chopped lamb, pine nuts, pomegranate and paper thin onion…I would’ve taken a pic but we devoured it. I haven’t had hummus this good since I lived overseas.
The pita is homemade and Greek-style, which is my absolute favorite. The chicken was juicy and meaty with a crispy flavorful skin. The salad was fresh cucumbers, tomatoes, feta, and olives (not from a can). Potatoes were crispy and flavorful…just everything about this whole meal was perfect.
I need to start a petition to have them open for lunch. Imagine a lunch menu of just souvlakis with a side of those schmaltz potatoes? Or two chicken legs with a side cucumber salad? I’d eat here every single day. As it is, we’ll be ordering dinner from...
Read moreWe recently took a group of 9 people (4 adults and 5 kids age 3mos-8years) to Claio on a Monday at 6pm, and had a lovely time. I was nervous to bring so many kiddos, but when we arrived we were welcomed warmly and the kids were given kids menus and crayons (that is always a good sign that they truly welcome families!) We ordered and our food came out quickly! The server was very attentive to our group, and ensured the kids got what they needed so the parents could enjoy the meal too! I had to change our 3-month-old and am pleased to share that the bathroom does have a changing table! :)
It is not at all a surprise that the food is amazing (it is a sister restaurant to Perenn). It seems they have fine-tuned the menu, as it is slightly different than our first visit a year or so ago. I liked it better this time as the entrees now come with sides, instead of being ala carte. We got the steak and the chicken plates, and both were really tasty.
I ALWAYS consider the ambiance when choosing a restaurant, and am happy to share that this passes my "it must be beautiful" test!
This restaurant is beautiful inside, has great food, and is welcoming to families. We are so thankful for this spot!
And if you haven't been by in the morning for pastries to go (though you can sit down too) and a walk through Caughlin Ranch, you should give it a try. It is a family...
