The fifth is a hidden gem on a corner lot in a shopping center in Richardson, Texas. Inside the menu features a modern take on classic American food. At first look walking up to the building is a huge shaded outdoor seating area with fans and decorative lighting, definitely the place to be on a summer night or Sunday brunch. When you walk into the inside seating area you are greeted with modern open split level seating, and a sleek clean bar. The low lighting in the quaint restaurant makes for a relaxing, comfortable vibe.
After being quickly seated, you look around and notice the demographic is an older, more well-sitting community. That being said, the staff did not treat us any differently for being younger than most of their customers. On top of being very attentive along with friendly, there is not a single bad thing to be said about the service. Our server Kelsey was marvelous she will help make you feel the welcoming atmosphere and treat you like she enjoys her job and that’s not something that stands out very often.
Sitting down and looking at the menu you can see that they have something for everyone from starters, to salads, soups and sandwiches, house specials, sides, desserts, and cocktails. They’re notably also being COVID responsible with distancing, disposable menus, and wearing masks.
First thing that caught our eye was the Rosie Rose cocktail, that tasted exactly like a flower with a nice buzz. Another cocktail to order is the Corpse Reviver #2 a gin based drink on the stronger but smooth side that could definitely revive a corpse.
We ordered a C&C Board out of intrigue to how the candied bacon with the jalapeño sauce gave us the sweet and spicy tang we fond over. It had so many options to choose from but there were a few combinations we thought was too good not to share, the Brie cheese and the dates were a phenomenal creamy and sweet mix that has a great medium. The dates also pair well with the andouille sausage, it brings a flavor I’ve not tasted before, the sausage provides a spicy flavor that the sweetness of the date cancels out elegantly to make this perfect best-of-both-worlds combination.
On to the main courses, I decided on the pan seared salmon with whipped potatoes, my significant other decided on the filet mignon with sweet corn brulee and poblano and cheddar grits. Let me just start off by saying the sides are out of this world and unique, most of the sides are things we’ve never heard of. The whipped potatoes are so smooth and the flavor with just the right amount of seasoning. nothing gets taken away from the entree just added. The poblano and cheddar grits taste exactly what it sounds like, creamy cheese working together with the grits provided sweetness with a spicy hint from the poblano. The filet mignon is just spectacular with a buttery melt in your mouth taste it makes you want to savor every last bite. The pan seared salmon is absolutely delightful having a pure buttery taste with a slight crunch on top, I would highly recommend eating it with the basil aioli it brings the flavor to the next level.
We never leave a restaurant without ordering dessert! Our choices were the key lime pie and flourless chocolate cake. Because we are avid chocolate enthusiasts, we decided to go along with the flourless chocolate cake. The cake is a very rich cake with a fudge like consistency and it was a nice addition flourless. There is a raspberry coulis drizzled decoratively on the plate and cake this makes for a sweet tart taste that definitely counters the richness in the chocolate and is honestly just such a special combination.
All in all I would highly recommend this establishment, it is perfect for a date night or if you wanted a nice dinner in a nice place. We went in there expecting to rack up a three-digit bill but we were shocked to find we hadn’t even gotten that high, were just shy of it. the ambiance had the sleek modern look we love and the service was so heartwarming with Kelsey being a great server. I would love to come back for the Sunday brunch...
Read moreThis was our first visit. We made 5pm reservations for the patio after viewing the patio pictures online. When we arrived we were told we couldn't sit on the back patio and that we would have to sit on the other patio aka the sidewalk next to the entrance of the shopping center. As we were being led out to the other patio, the manager was setting up tables and said those tables were all reserved and we replied we had reservations. The outdoor patio is a covered walkthrough where the hostess spoke very loudly to other customers, the manager spoke loudly to the wait staff, because the music was too loud. We ordered cocktails and asked for the wine list and were told all the wines were on the menu. After about 5 minutes our waiter came back with a handwritten list of wines that weren't on the menu. We ordered a bottle of wine from the new list. About 20 minutes later our cocktails arrived with the wine. The wine was nice as were the cocktails. We ordered a meat and cheese board and the pork chop and short rib dinners for the main course. The meat and cheese board was delivered after another 15 minutes. The cheese board had ricotta on it that looked and tasted like snot. Then our waiter came back and said that we could not order from the regular menu as they were using a special Prix Fixe menu because it was Valentine's weekend and that we had to select from the Prix Fixe menu, even though we had already eaten the meat and cheese board appetizer from the regular menu. The prix fixe appetizers arrived, tostada's and fried mozzarella cheese ball. Both seemed to have sat for quite a while, the edges of the tostada were stale and the center was greasy and soggy, the mozzarella ball had to be cut with a fork and knife because the cheese was plasticky in texture and cold. We ate the tostada's, but we couldn't cut them. At this point we have been at the restaurant 1.5 hours so we asked could they just box the rest of our meal to go. We payed our bill (they took off the meat and cheese board) and waited for the food. After another 15 minutes the entrees come out in a to go bag but the key lime pie and a creme brulee dessert were missing. We waited another 10 minutes and left without the desserts, declaring our evening and dinner a bust. We had been there 2 hours when we left. The food was mediocre, the atmosphere for a what was supposed to be set up for Valentine's was like being at a carnival with manager running like it a bad...
Read moreGreat experience! My wife and I were out running errands and decided we needed something to eat. I asked her to find a place on her phone and we'll go there. She picked a place called, "The Fifth" Fireside Patio & Bar. She had checked the menue on her phone and found something that sparked her interest, so we went there. Neither one of us had been there before. First off... Taste is subjective, and this is our opinion on how much we enjoyed our meal. We arrive around 2pm and were pleasently greeted. They had a brunch and lunch menu still available. The menu is not huge but well rounded with plenty of items to choose from. I chose the brunch menu and my wife chose the lunch menu. We both began with what they call, "Starters." I chose the Chef's Deviled Eggs and she chose the, "Texas Poutine" which is blackened fries, caramelized onions, brie cheese, white sauce, and a red wine gravy. My deviled eggs came with bits of candied bacon on top. I had the Country Breakfast for lunch. It came with eggs, bacon or sausage, potatoes, a cheese biscuit or toast. I chose the sausage and cheese biscuit. Somehow, I got bacon delivered as well. I'm glad I did. Their candied bacon is awesome! A sweet touch with a bit of a peppery bite at the end. My wife got the Lamb Sandwich, ( Gyro ) with Gyro style meat in a wrap. We both sampled each other's lunch and were extremely wowed by the flavors of everything they brought us. Now this may sound like fancy dining but this place isn't in the 5 star type restaurant category and doesn't need to be. It's a very down to earth restaurant. Clean with good lighting, great atmosphere. We felt comfortable from the start. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, yet not bothersome. and we got a visit from one of the business partners. He was a wealth of knowledge about the restaurant, their food, and their mission. They're not afraid to try something new and the menu may change from time to time, but that's part of the charm of this place. Thanks to our experience today, we've found a new place to dine. We will definitely come back. Outstanding food and service. Reasonable prices. And people who seem to really care about your experience when you visit. Come with reasonable expectations and you won't be...
