I ordered the open faced roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes with the salad that comes with a roll and my husband had a couple scrambled eggs and wheat toast. I asked for extra mashed potatoes and mentioned that last time I was charged a dollar for them. My husband had to ask the waitress for my salad so I would get it before the meal because she forgot. I asked to make sure there was a good amount of gravy because the last time there wasn't and I asked for more and ended up paying extra for it. I guess gravy is expensive these days. Anyway, the bread on my open faced sandwich was DRY. I pointed that out to our server and she said, do you want a side? Well no, I don't want to be charged for more gravy, I just wanted my sandwich covered. The Roast Beef was CRUNCHY, yes, crunchy and dry and she forgot my roll so my husband had to ask for that as well. By this time, we are feeling like a major inconvenience to this girl for having to keep asking for what we ordered. She brought white toast instead of wheat but my husband just ate it because....sheesh! When she brought the check she asked if everything was okay and so I told her the truth. Roast was crunchy and dry. She said, I'm so sorry and I told her we got white toast instead of wheat and AGAIN, she says I'm so sorry. No offer to make it right, ie... a small discount, NOTHING! Then I notice that I was charged 3.99 for the extra mashed potatoes instead of the 1.00 dollar I had paid the last time. Apparently she didn't register that I had said to her extra mashed potatoes for a dollar like last time and just charged me for a "side" instead. She asks, is that okay? What am I supposed to say? I had eaten them already? We just paid for this overpriced subpar food and tipped this waitress 20% and left. We will not be eating there again. Some people are regulars there and are okay with the poor quality of food and service. We used to be regulars but noticed the food got more expensive and wasn't as good so we stopped patronizing them for about a year and a half. A few months ago we decided to give them another chance and the food was pretty good. We have come to realize that they are just not consistent with their quality and the server just doesn't care enough to pay attention to what her customers are ordering. To be fair, this seems to be a common theme in our small town for some reason. Maybe they just don't care or they figure there isn't really much competition so why work too hard. We used to eat out quite a bit but because of this perplexing oddity here, I've just been cooking at home. We have decided to go back to doing this as the food is much better, less expensive and there is no...

I had to run some errands in Richfield and knew I was starting to get a bit hungry. After driving down the main street and seeing this cafe it just glowed and caught my eye. So parked and decided it was a must try.
Upon entering the door was stuck, was a gentleman that was coming out helped pull the door and laughed about the humidity. Was quickly greeted and ushered over to a table. Menus were given and drink order was taken.
Opted for the Chicken Fried Steak Meal, French Dip, and Pancakes. Now I dont eat pancakes often. I love them, it is just something I normally dont entertain. Can I say what is this batter made out of? It was amazing. I think I could have ate a couple more plates of those. All of the other food just seemed to fade away while I was scarfing on those pancakes.
Interior is neat. It was originally a residence. In the 20's it became a functioning restaurant. Then it was rehabbed and a staircase was put in, while the upstairs was turned into a giftshop. That didnt last however as somethings in life evolve. But the restaurant has remained steadfast over all of the years. Clocks of all shapes and sizes adorn the walls. There are small wooden placards that let you know who sat in your booth once upon a time.
It has a homey feel to it. The waitresses knew everyone, and several people were def regulars. I didnt feel like an outsider but I knew this was one of those places that is truly a locals eatery.
Would recommend - pricing was reasonable. Staff are very friendly and hospitable. It is like walking back in time here. My table was checked on continually making sure everything...
Read moreGo literally ANYWHERE else! The food is garbage now. Not too long ago, this place was pretty good. Prices were great and food was outstanding (the made-from-scratch, rich, delicious, buttermilk pancakes WERE my favorite.) Just recently, recipes have changed, tastes have gone badly downhill, things taste canned, not home-made like before. Nothing is being cooked right, and cooks can be heard horsing around, cussing and very obviously distracted by each other's personal lives. We, mistakingly gave them another chance and it took 30 minutes to be acknowledged by a waitress, ordered 2 plates of food (2 people eating), and it took an additional 45 minutes to be served 1 inedible, sloppy, OVERPRICED plate of food that we just couldn't gag down together. They were not busy, maybe 10 tables, mostly 2 people per table. I heard it was a mother and daughter cooking that day. Who hires children to prepare food in a restaurant??? Sounds like they have a problem in the hiring department, and from my standpoint, I can understand why. Not the most professional/welcoming enviroment. Nothing being changed for the better. I will NEVER suggest this place to anyone again, until things go back to the...
