What a serious disappointment. I used to eat here quite often- not anymore. Several days after the fire restoration was completed my girlfriend and I eagerly visited Isla Bonita after what has been a very long break. This is our experience:
Prices have increased- approximately 25%- which is a lot for this type of dining-
The chips were stale and the salsa tasted... off. They added a "salsa bar" so the waitress no longer has to bring salsa to you but the bar only has very small cups- a style typically used for the sacrament.
The soda mixture was not correct- too much carbonation and not enough syrup- gross.
The waitress- incredibly hurried to the point of missing portions of the order (which we never received) and we both felt she was very rude. A loud, high-pitched squeal of a voice and a forced smile doesn’t equal polite waitress in my book. A check-back literally lasted less than two seconds and she didn't even come all the way to our table- just got close enough to say, "Everything good- ok!" but didn't bother to wait for a response from either myself or girlfriend- nor did she bother to notice the need for napkins or refreshments.
On the plate, beans that had been sitting for some time under a heat lamp and had dried out- rice that had also dried out and/or was severely undercooked resulting in those rock-hard chunks that nearly break your teeth.
Once emptied, drinks stayed that way for about eight minutes and were only filled after the emptiness was specifically brought to the attention of the waitress. The bill (just shy of $40 for two people) never arrived. We had to go to the cashier to tell them we were done and ready to leave so we needed our total.
I'm incredibly disappointed and I won't be going back anytime soon- or ever, if I can help it; which is truly unfortunate considering how much I used to enjoy...
Read moreWanted to try something new so my family and I decided to try this place. It was a disappointment. Food wasn’t fresh, I got the chicken flautus. And the chicken was extremely dry. My husband got the steak fajitas and the meat was very dry. My son got carne asada fries and the carne asada was extremely chewy and dry. The only thing that wasn’t dry was the kids cheese quesadilla.
We asked for a refill on our drink NEVER got it and our waitress always got distracted always sat and talked convo with other guest which is okay but also know that you are at work and have tables waiting. We asked for a box and waited about 10 minutes before my husband got irritated and just said let’s go. We had to go up to the front and ask for our ticket so we can pay our bill even the guy up front went to go ask our waitress where our bill was and of course the waitress lady just kept talking with someone who she knew outside of work very unprofessional. Our bill came out to 200$ which is insane for the quality food we got because it wasn’t worth it. All in all we definitely won’t be back but we hope that the restaurant does better service wise...
Read moreI came in and dined in with Isla Bonita last night and it was an amazing experience. Like any other mexican restaurant, they serve you some chips and salsa while you wait for the main course and the salsa was delicious with a nice kick to it. Not too overwhelming or underwhelming as well as nice and chunky. I ordered a Molcajete with steak and corn tortillas. The red sauce that came with the molcajete was nice and flavorful. Most molcajete salsas just taste like plain tomato sauce, but this had an excellent balance of flavors and it also came cooked with mushrooms too. What really sold me was the handmade corn tortillas. I was honestly expecting plain regular tortillas, but they go the extra mile here and make them in house! Drinks here are nice and strong as well as the service. 5 stars all around for good food, service, and atmosphere. Who ever my server was yesterday was polite and attentive. Overall, I paid the average price for any mexican restaurant visit ($40-50) and I enjoyed my visit here!...
