My wife and myself went in to ace hardware several months ago to purchase many household goods needed, intending to spend at least a couple hundred dollars. We worked at a fitness club and both had just gotten off work, so we had our backpacks with our work stuff inside. Our car does not lock so we took our bags in with us, and never had an issue ANYWHERE we go, as we are both 40 years old with all our teeth and nice clean clothes. We were abruptly stopped and told to leave our bags at the front of The store while we shop. Our reply was, "We have our wallets and medication in our bags, we will keep them with us thank you." We were told that was not store policy and we would have to leave them at the front desk. Once again we politely declined and decided that they were going just lose our business instead. I don't care what your policy is, there is no way I'm going to trust some stranger to keep an eye on my bag so they don't have to worry about a couple of old people stealing their merchandise. What if someone stole my wife's bag with her medication, or my bag with all my money and cards in it? I would probably be told they weren't liable. Here's an idea Ace, instead of that, how about you check our bags on the way out if you suspect us of stealing your overpriced goods? I'll gladly let you pilfer through my dirty gym clothes if you have a hard-on for it! You made us feel like we were assumed thieves as soon as we walked through the door! Never have I had an issue before in your store, but that single event has changed my families mind about You! It's not just my wife and I that stopped frequenting your store, but both of our extended families as well. Well played...

Read moreI've been shopping here for many years, and the most notable thing is that customer service really improved when Griggs took over from the previous Ace owner. They also expanded the store, and I can now pretty much find anything I need here when I don't feel like going to Home Depot (Ace is closer to home). There are always employees walking around offering to help if you need to locate something of have questions. I rarely need direction these days as I know the store layout very well. Their checkout area could be improved - when there are a lot of people waiting, and inevitably many patrons seem to love gabbing rather than completing their purchases, the line gets backed up into the clothing racks. It's not labeled very clear and customers who lack a basic awareness of their surroundings tend to cut in instead of going to the back of the line. Since there's no clear delineation of a single line versus multiple lines feeding into the multiple checkstands, one can end up waiting even longer because of the disorganization. I'll repeat again though, that the employees are extremely friendly...
