Caterpillar Cafe — Restaurant in Richland

The place is very nice and cozy, definitely has a charming atmosphere, but unfortunately, the coffee was a letdown. I’ll admit, my taste buds are more accustomed to a stronger, fuller-flavored coffee, and this is just my honest opinion. Many people may highly regard this coffee shop, but as the saying goes: “to each their own.”

I ordered a Hazelnut Latte and my friend got a Cappuccino, but both drinks tasted like watered-down coffee with very little flavor. There was no richness or depth, just a weak, almost bland brew that didn’t do justice to what a proper espresso-based drink should be.

I enjoy visiting different cafés that typically use medium roast beans grown on the island of Puerto Rico or from nearby regions like Colombia. The coffee I’m used to back home is bold but smooth, with a naturally sweet aroma and flavor. Notes of caramel, cocoa, or light fruit are balanced and never bitter. It’s the kind of cup that makes you pause and hope it never ends.

Things I love about Caterpillar Cafe: It's really easy to order online (while still customizing your drink exactly as you like it) and to pick it up curbside or in-store There's no charge for alternative milks You can get hot cocoa with alternative milk There's lots of fun products in the cafe like tea infusers and drink sleeves and glass bottles Diverse seating (couches, barstools, tables, a couple outdoor tables) Usually a pretty short wait for drinks I have a punchcard (that I always forget to use but that's beside the point). After like 5-6 punches (1 drink = 1 punch?) you can get ANY drink free (ANY size)!! It's LOCAL and has way more options than most places - you really get to customize your drinks to a specific level Everything that gives it that Adventures Underground vibe - the medieval-like map tables, the Alice In Wonderland and Star Wars themed drink names, the poem that explains the (free) wi-fi password, etc etc etc!

I love this place! I’ve lived here all my life, and have never been inside, and now I regret not coming sooner. The atmosphere is amazing, there are so many tea/coffee options, the staff is attentive, so kind, and quick. There are couches for you to sit on if you don’t want to sit on chairs at a table, and there are also card/board games for you to play with people! I saw a sign that said you could get a bowl of cereal for $2, and I thought to myself… this is heaven. I had a slice of scrumptious banana bread that had chopped walnuts on it, and it was deliciously moist and flavorful. I was planning on spending a lot more money than I actually did. My friend got tea with soy milk, and she wasn’t even charged extra for soy milk unlike other places. The food and drinks are affordable, but amazing!
