Grits coffee is fine, but the employees here are sooo weird. They’re all obviously really close friends, but sometimes they make it feel like you’re intruding or interrupting their conversations when you walk up to order. And it doesn’t help that they all have really funky, emo style and scoff like you’re inferior if you dare dress like a normal person and don’t have a nose piercing. Today, I also got a really weird glare and a blunt “ok” from a barista with a white pixie cut and a rbf after my order came out in a for-here glass even though I was sure I said to-go. Even the person who took my order turned back and admitted to the barista who make the drink that it was THEIR fault, but the pixie cut barista just poured the drink into a to-go cup and slid it over to me, not saying a word. No “here you are”, no smile, just a look of annoyance that made me regret speaking, ordering, or even breathing anywhere near this establishment. These alt people that work at grit are literally just your traditional mean girls with cooler outfits - save ur dignity and go...

I absolutely love this spot. Grit is one of my favorite places in Richmond. It’s not only a great coffee shop to work from, but also an excellent spot to take meetings. They have the most phenomenal vibe, but what really makes it special are the folx who work there.

Brylee is such an amazing manager. They are personable, attentive, and always make time for customers. You never feel like just a transaction here. Brylee gets to know you, your order, and the little things that make you feel at home.

The team is just as special. Paris is thoughtful and welcoming and makes every visit feel personal. Gabby’s kindness and energy brighten the whole spot. The entire barista crew consistently goes above and beyond, and it’s clear they care deeply about the community they’re building.
