$$$$$$$$$ Bring your wallet -- or better yet bring someone else's wallet. This place is so over-priced it is insane. It's good pizza -- but absolutely not the best I ever had by far. But the prices are UNREASONABLY HIGH!
I thought the pizza was ridiculously super high priced bill but a friend of mine went to the bar to get a drink -- just a scotch on the rocks.... for $24!!! I am NOT kidding - he showed me the receipt - $24 dollars (U.S. money) for just a simple stupid scotch on the rocks!
No there are no airline gates, no dolphin shows, no rock concert, no celebrities at the next table.. it's just a pizzeria. The decor is nice but it really just a pizza place with nothing special including the food or the service.
All of these prices are based on Fifth Avenue in New York City but this is just a pizzeria in a grocery store strip plaza, next to an Ace Hardware for god's sake -- in regular a middle class neighborhood in Gainesville, Florida. These guys must want to retire in 5 years because their rent, overhead, and food costs -- and food quality -- do NOT justify such insane prices.
I have dined at some very nice restaurants at some very expensive resorts and seen lower prices. I'm not cheap but this place is absolutely not worth these prices at all.
The service is modest. The server we dealt with was kind of a smart-mouth who made it clear that she though that she was cute and really deserved nice things in life - trying to make sure we understood that she expected a big tip.
When I got the outrageous bill I tipped almost nothing and told the server that it wasn't just her snotty attitude but that the prices were so insanely high that I could not justify a tip. If they are going to charge that much to watch people roll their grocery carts past the window that they could pay their servers $25 an hour and just not expect tips.
I don't know what the people who own this place are smoking but they better not expect any return business at these prices and a group leaving with us made the same observation.
My best advice, don't come here as the food quality and service are no where near worth the insane pricing for food and drinks. You can get much better food and service at any other place in Gainesville, Florida for a fraction of...
Read moreReservations are highly recommended well in advance. Sometimes, even reserving 3 days prior can be difficult to get in at 5:30-8:30PM, especially on Fri/Sat/Sun and all Summer. This was my second visit. The ambiance is romantic & charming. The service has been perfect both times and always with a great attitude and smiles. They offer fantastic drinks such as delicious wines, martinis, & mules. The seasonal drink specials are fun, too. They have an extensive menu with consistent food offerings. The EVOO & Parmigiano cheese at the table with warm, fresh bread are such a delight to start the meal. They have the best steaks you'll find in Northern Illinois. The filet mignon was super tender, perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked, a balanced grilled char on the outside, a thick cut of meat, and so very juicy. It's difficult to decide on the baked potato or pasta side with the steak because both are great accompaniments. The alfredo sauce was perfectly creamy & and cheesy, and the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. The Mediterranean sea bass filets were rich, delicious, and hearty. I highly recommend that you add at least a meatball or Italian sausage or both to share at the table. Don't forget to save room for dessert too. It truly finishes the experience, sweetly. So far, the peanut butter pie & tiramisu were a delight to share. Unless you have a ravenous appetite, you will likely have a little food to take home as their portions are fairly generous. That gives me such a smile as I am pleased to have it for lunch the next day. I already can't wait to return to Paisano's! ...
Read moreFantastic place to eat! Our first visit here, and we were expecting good food and service from what we had read. Food, service, and decor were all GREAT! Our server, Samantha., was very attentive to all of our needs without being pushy, which led to a most relaxing dinner. We had Bruschetta, Meat Lasagna, and Eggplant Parmigiana. All were absolutely fantastic, and fairly large portions. During our time there, we asked Samantha if she would take a picture of us as it was an anniversary dinner for us. She wished us a Happy Anniversary, and quickly took a few pics with my wife's phone, before going back to work. As we finished our dinner, Sam came by with a surprise for us, a shareable gelato dessert, complete with a little candle, and a little decoration wishing Happy Anniversary! Very nice and thoughtful! Two quick thoughts: I spent time in Europe while in the Army, and the decor reminded me of some of the restaurants I ate at while there. Nice touch! As dinner ended, I asked Samantha if she could get the brand name of the Chianti wine I had with dinner. She remembered it off the top of her head and wrote it down for me! Great attention to detail! Great service! We both highly recommend Paisano's on Broadway and...
