Victor's Mexican Taqueria Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Richmond

Cute little place but I think they can up their game. Between my grandmother's cooking and growing up in SW Detroit I'm used to flavor. We stopped in after attending the Mexicana event at Reid Ctr. After being surrounded with the smells and sounds of my grandmother's kitchen I had to get food. 1st attempt at our food was disappointing - very bland and missing key components. Second attempt flavor was better but was still missing ingredients. Unfortunately this seems to be true to Richmond. Folks are scared of real flavor. Our peoples are rich in culture and flavor. I believe it's time we start bringing those priceless treasures back. Start making menudo, abondigas, moles, horchatas, flan, empanadas etc from scratch. Canned and powdered mixes will never measure up. This family restaurant has so much potential and is already becoming a fast favorite in our community. stopped by 30 minutes before close to grab some food to go, Snagged a refreshing Michilada while waitin, I got some fish tacos, not on the menue but they made them. Arroz con pollo and a shrimp coctail. the best Family style mexican food i have ever had. Found my new regular spot cant wait to try the birria. Staff was amazing and welcoming, somthing you dont really find in richmond. I mean who wants to choose a pizza from 30 different pizza places wehen you have Victors to go to.

This is the restaurant other local places should aspire to be. The food here was next level. It doesn't taste like your typical restaurant food where they cut corners and use inferior ingredients. No, this food all tastes homemade in the best way. My girlfriend and I were there last night. I got the burrito tropical and it was INCREDIBLE. She got birria tacos and they were so much better than we expected. And we both already expected to love them, I mean they're birria tacos! I've never seen her eat that fast!!
