It's fun! So great to have a waterfall in our little city. Lots of people climb up or down the waterfall. There's also room to wade in the water and splash. Bring your bathing suit. There's also a neat trail running along the side of the river, a few yards away from the stairs (on the right side of the river if you're looking at it from the waterfall). This trail connects to the Cardinal Greenway trail via three different routes. Take one of the two closer to the waterfall if you want to avoid a rather steep climb (e.g. if you're with someone elderly). You could make it a hiking adventure by starting at Thistlethwaite Falls, going to the trail on the right, next to the Cardinal Greenway, from there take a trail by the 65th mile that goes to Springwood Lake Park, then hike around the nature trails there, and finally head back towards Springwood Lake and back to the falls. Or you could go fishing at any of the numerous spots...
Read moreThis is such a mystical & magical place tucked away in Richmond Indiana. There are so many creatures & life to be found here! Large spiders, crawdads, fish, snakes, turtles, tadpoles & frogs. Be aware that even through it's in town, it's pure nature. There are All kinds of fossils to be found in the rocks laying around. There is also a lovely natural clay deposit, & it's nice to squish your hands in. I did see a couple different kids of poison plants, so if you're allergic, Do Be Careful! I suggest wearing water shoes of some sort, because even through there's not as much litter as I'm used to seeing, you will occasionally come across broken glass, & you want to protect your & your loved one's feet. It's a wonderful place to make memories & enjoy the lovely & relaxing environment. Please pick up your trash when you leave, be kind to others, & respect the creatures that call that...
Read moreBeautiful waterfall just a short distance from the main road. There’s ample dirt parking by the road. There’s a viewing area, and then you can walk down about twenty cement stairs to view the falls as well. That’s also a trail to walk along the stream that is about .40 miles. The trail is well-traveled, but you need to watch out for roots, and the ground is slightly uneven. There’s a very small creek that you have to cross, but it’s just a hop across a couple rocks. There’s a very small makeshift “bridge”, which is a group of small “logs”…but it’s wobbly. Better off using the rocks, if you’re clumsy like me!
The whole area is very peaceful with the sound of the waterfall, the stream, and the birds. If you walk down to the to the end of the trail, there’s...
