We celebrated my wife's and mother in law's birthday at The Benjamin last night. The space itself is beautiful, warm and inviting. As with all my restaurant reviews, after the quality of the food, what is most important to me is the service. The food at any place can be top notch but without great service, I will only give it 3 stars. We all not only thoroughly enjoyed our meals last night, but we had incredible service from Mary, the manager, and Shane, our server. One of my daughters has severe food allergies so it can be trying and difficult to accommodate her meals. Mary and Shane made sure of this last night in every way. Mary further accommodated me by having one of my wines decanted an hour before dinner since it was a newer Chateauneuf du Pape. I was quite impressed with the decanter and pourer that was used; which shows the attention to small but crucial details. At the end of the night, both Mary and Shane surprised us with Birthday sparklers and dessert for my wife and mother in law. We all thought it was so sweet and thoughtful. As to the food, we had the cheese and charcuterie board, foie gras, and the salads. The foie gras was incredibly delicious. It was seared perfectly and well complemented and dressed. The cheese and charcuterie board contained a great selection and well complemented with a drizzle of honey. My lamb shank was delicious. My wife's halibut was poached perfectly; as was my children's filet mignon perfectly cooked. The Benjamin is now one of my favorite restaurant in Fairfield. Lastly, I especially hope that Mary and Shane will be there the next time I come. Bravo!!

The duck breast was cooked to my preference, was tasty, and the accompanying fava bean, almond, quinoa, grapefruit gastrique side dish was nicely flavored and balanced. However, I only got two slices of the duck breast which probably accounted for 1/3 of the whole duck breast. This felt stingy for a $39 entree. Hence my taking a star away from the overall review. (In the photo, I did that horizontal cut to share with my wife before remembering to take a picture. But that is all the duck that came.) The lobster risotto was quite good, esp. the lobster risotto with saffron, asparagus, parmesan cheese - I especially appreciated the addition of the tiny corn kernels. While expensive at $58, it felt worth it for the whole "lazy man's" lobster, completely taken out of the shell. Wines by the glass and bottle - good selection, pretty fair prices. We really liked the updated look of the restaurant from its previous incarnation as Bernard's. If felt airy and modern.

We visited The Benjamin for lunch on Saturday. The dining room, beautifully decorated for spring, was quiet with only one other table. We enjoyed the Burrata and Beet Salad, a delightful mix of pickled and roasted beets, hazelnuts, and creamy burrata on a bed of greens. I loved the composition of this spring salad. While the Wagyu burger was flavorful, the excessive dressing on the bottom bun made it somewhat messy to eat. The bun was also cut very unevely, the bottom bun wet from the dressing and there was just too bread on top. DH thought the fries were very salty but I like salty fries. Nevertheless, service was efficient, and we're eager to explore more of the menu on our next visit.

We sat at the bar which is stunning btw. Love the vibe in the room--cozy with the fireplace roaring, seats super comfy, decor beautful. We had been to The Benjamin a few times before and was never truly impressed with their cocktails which have always been weak, but last night we were beyond disappointed. The cocktail was as usual weak and our meal ( 2 burgers) took almost an hour to come out after our Ceasar salad ( which was a small portion but tasty and fresh). We kept looking around for our bartender to see what happended to our food and he seemed to be avoiding us bc he knew how long the wait was taking. Finally he said, "the kitchen is backed up, sorry." I get it and it happens but bro...offer us a drink or bread or something on the house...c'mon no common sense which kinda pissed us off. Our burgers finally came out and looked great but one bite and they were both raw on the inside. We asked for medium rare but these were fleshy, red and inedible. Our bartender brought them back to the kitchen and 5 min later they came back and the carmelized onions and melted cheese had basically disappeared and they replaced the meat on a new untoasted cold roll. Not what I envisioned...Damn! Maybe at Mc Donalds but here? Again, no offer on the behalf of the staff to make things right?!! Shocked and disappointed we summoned for the manager who was super nice and apologetic and told us that the bartender had actually shown him our raw hamburgers in the kitchen and there was no excuse so he promptly comped up both hamburgers which was super nice AND the RIGHT thing to do.

My issue is...if they knew we waited an hour for raw hamburgers why the hell did they not come to us and make it right? IDK, buy us a round of drinks or take the burgers off the bill without us having to come to you?!! I guess they figured they could get away with it and we would be too shy to complain? IDK...Just shit customer service and for those prices we will not be returning which is sad bc we are from Ridgefield and love to support local. Lastly, we ordered the dessert....a meringue based strawberry thing which was a small portion, meringue was hard and overall...

Let me start off by saying that this is my very first restaurant review! I felt so strongly about this amazing experience that I had to come on here and share it. Simply put, this is the best restaurant I’ve ever been to in Ridgefield, period. I live in Greenwich, CT and even here it’s hard to find a restaurant like The Benjamin in Ridgefield, CT. From the moment I stepped inside, I knew this place was something special. The ambiance strikes a perfect balance between sophistication and warmth; soft lighting, tasteful décor, and an inviting atmosphere that immediately makes you feel at ease. Every detail was spotless, from the polished tables to the gleaming cutlery, showing the restaurant’s commitment to excellence and cleanliness. The service was absolutely top-notch. The staff displayed that rare combination of professionalism and genuine hospitality, always attentive but never overbearing. Each course arrived promptly, beautifully presented, and served with a smile that made the experience feel personal. And the food ah, simply extraordinary. Every dish was bursting with flavor, cooked to perfection.! Can’t wait to come back go...
