Matriarch Café — Restaurant in Ripon

Let me say my boyfriend and I were super excited to finally try this place! When we got there we were excited to see that it looked exactly how it was pictured on social media. Going inside, we weren’t even acknowledged or greeted. The staff was not friendly whatsoever. I understand that’s not a requirement but a simple welcome in would have been nice. The barista taking our order didn’t seem in any kind of mood to speak or anything. Even when grabbing our food item and drinks when I asked the other barista if I could please have two forks she seemed frustrated to give them to me and just handed it without even looking at me or anything. I understand when being busy or working in a busy environment things can get a little overwhelming, but no excuse to treat people rudely. In general we both felt out of place being here which sucks because I feel being at a coffee shop should be relaxing and a fun experience. When first walking into Matriarch we were not greeted or even acknowledged then when ordering the barista seemed annoyed and had an attitude like they didn’t want to be there or acknowledge us. The final kicker was once we got our drinks, we were left disappointed once again. The matcha had a chemically aftertaste, I couldn’t even finish my drink it was concerning. Overall It’s pretty disappointing when a new spot pop-ups in town and they just don’t live up to your expectations, even remotely. I was also expecting something new and exciting from this coffee shop but everything they are doing has already been done before… not to mention the quality and taste of the drinks we got were unreasonably bad. I was driving home from work and this café stood out very distinctly from its surroundings because of its cool design, so I stopped in the next day to get an Americano and a cinnamon roll and check it out. The vibe, the staff, and the spot Are top-tier. I’m definitely gonna come back with some friends or just to study. To be fair, the Americano wasn’t the best that I’ve ever had, but it wasn’t bad.
