Exemplary breakfast with an eclectic and homey feel. The food is farm to table so you know it's fresh. We both opted for the spinach, mushroom, cheese and bacon omelettes with rye toast. They were happy to substitute out the mushrooms or bacon for us, and we were even offered options for homemade Amish butters and jellies for our toast. I opted for the "bear" jelly which I believe was a mix of blueberries, blackberries, and cherries and she got the cherry butter (oh my goodness it was fantastic).
We also tried a side of their goetta (had to look it up!) which apparently is the home recipe of their butcher's grandmother. It was delicious and crunchy and almost reminded me of the blood/white breakfast pudding I have had overseas which I quite like. The omelette was stuffed with the promised fillings and cooked to perfection, and the toast was nothing short of scrumptious with the preserves on top. We returned the next day and things weren’t so friendly …no smiles, no friendly talk, and we felt very, very unwelcome. It was a Monday morning, so not as busy. No one checked on us once the food was served, no one cleared our dishes, and we waited at least fifteen minutes for our bill after we had finished eating. My husband had to ask for the bill a second time.
Upset my 87 year old dear mother and it was a bad start to the beautiful day. Remember please the golden rule even if you are tired, crabby, rushed or only know the locals … small actions of kindness and respect go...
