This casual family-owned establishment remains a hidden gem on Kinderkamack Road in River Edge, offering a unique dining experience that combines traditional Mediterranean cuisine with a cozy and inviting atmosphere. My partner, our friends and I been to Mado on numerous occasions and decided on dinner tonight. We were a party of six, and reservations are recommended, especially on weekends, by calling the restaurant. The menu is comprised of some of the most popular Armenian dishes. Our meal began with the complimentary freshly baked balloon-like pita bread called Lavaş, sometimes called "balloon bread. As a starter, we decided on the stuffed grape leaves and lebne (thick yogurt, walnuts, and mint with a hint of garlic and salt). For our main meal, we opted for Chicken Shish Kebab, Gyro Platter, Chicken Shish Kebab with Yogurt, Beef Shish Kebab (Filet Mignon), and Tilapia. We even had room for desserts and ordered the Kunefe (shredded wheat with melted cheese in between 2 layers, topped with sweet syrup and pistachios) and Baklava. We can't say this enough: every single item coming out of the kitchen is pure perfection, as everything is always fresh and delicious. The meat was tender and flavorful. Portions are generous. Without explanation, one of us was served habiniero instead of the regular peppers, and it burned. They were busy, the servers were hustling and could have been a BIT more attentive about refilling the water, and we weren't rushed. Prices were not cheap but worth it. If you love Armenian, Turkish, or Mediterranean food, this is your choice in Bergen County, which we...
Read moreThis is a wonderful restaurant, very spacious, good for large groups and family meals. I was able to reserve for dinner on the same day morning for party of 7. They have parking lot in the back. The menu has decent variety of dishes, with unique ones like lamb and chicken kebabs with yogurt, which I haven’t seen other similar cuisine places.
We ordered many appetizers, zucchini fries, eggplant, calf’s liver. All were excellent, we loved dipping the eggplant with tomato sauce and complementary bread. For entree we got bunch of lamb and chicken kebobs. The one with yogurt so yummy. Perfect blend of tender meat and delicious white yogurt. It had some chunks of pita bread in it too. I was so full I took half of the plate home, and it still tasted good a day later.
We ended our dinner with Kazandibi (pudding). The restaurant was so gracious to give us couple of complementary ones. They were fluffy, soft and perfectly balanced with creaminess and sweetness.
Overall we had a wonderful time. Service was good. Food came out in decent time. We will surely come back for more...
