Kilim Mediterranean serves deliciously authentic Turkish food in River Edge, NJ! Everything was so fresh and we were served in a timely manner. For appetizers we had the stuffed grape leaves, babaganus (babaganoush), and pastrami rolls (made with phyllo dough). There was freshly-baked warm bread that was free and plentiful! As a main entree, we shared the Mixed Grill with lamb shish, Adana kebab, Turkish meatballs, chicken shish, with rice pilaf with orzo, cooked plum tomatoes, grilled jalapenos, and spicy red onions. We also had Turkish Dumplings (big portion!), lentil soup, and the kilim salad made with picked cucumber, tomato, walnuts, white onion, and green peppers in a parsley/lemon/pomegranate olive oil blend. We also had their Turkish coffee, Uludag Gazoz soda, and FREE Turkish Tea. For dessert we had the Antep Kunefe made with shredded crispy phyllo dough, sweet cheese inside, ground pistachios on top, and soaked in a honey-like syrup. This Antep Kunefe dessert was like a reimagined baklava and delicious. We had delicious paprika seasoned fries for the child in our party. Before 2020, Kilim Mediterranean replaced the previous Istanblue in this same location and the decor and ambiance are amazing! The owner spoke to us and was very kind and friendly, making sure all of our needs were attended to. Another plus is it's BYOB (bring your own beverage) so they opened our wine and provided wine glasses which was great! We highly recommend and look forward to returning, maybe to try the grilled octopus next time! Thank you for a wonderful dining...
Read moreWe stumbled upon a great lunch at Kilim. The food is freshly prepared and delicious. The service was attentive and friendly but not overbearing. Even got a refill on the courtesy glass of Turkish tea, which was quite nice. The closest I could describe it, is it seemed similar to Oolong tea.
The lunch special of an appetizer and a main with a can of soda is a reasonable $18.95. But we were out for a special day and decided we wanted to try several items from the regular menu. We started with the zesty homemade lentil soup with a squeeze of lemon. The two of us, shared a main of savory Turkish meatballs along with a tray of fresh hummus, babaganus, and tzatziki sauce, and the Shepperd's salad. The portions are generous, and the small size Shepperd's salad was more than plenty for the two of us. The meal was delicious and filling. We made the mistake of not leaving room for dessert, which gives us reason to return.
The decor is quite elegant and may seem more like a place for dinner than lunch. And even though were a bit dressed down we were welcomed with open arms. Haven't been here for dinner yet, but the ambiance would make for an excellent date night!
I also learned that Kilim is a small size, hand-made rug with intricate designs woven in. There are several adorning the walls of the restaurant. The...
Read moreKilim in River Edge is a true gem for lovers of Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine and our dining experience there was nothing short of delightful. We began with an abundance of hot, fluffy Turkish bread — absolutely irresistible — paired with lentil soup and baba ghanoush. Both were excellent: the lentil soup rich and comforting, the baba ghanoush smooth and smoky. My friend ordered the Kilim salad, a refreshing and inventive mix of chopped cucumbers, onions, peppers, tomatoes, and walnuts dressed with herbs in an olive oil, lemon, and pomegranate dressing — she enjoyed it immensely. For the main course, I had the lamb Adana with yogurt, and it was outstanding. In fact, it was the best Adana I have ever eaten. The chef, whom the waitstaff told me wasoriginally from Adana, brings the authenticity of his hometown specialty to the plate, and it shows in every bite. The service matched the quality of the food. The wait staff were friendly, attentive, and impressively knowledgeable about the dishes. My only regret is that I didn’t have the time — or the room — to try one of the tempting Turkish desserts. That just means I’ll have to return soon. Kilim is a restaurant that combines authenticity, warmth, and flavor in every dish. Highly...
