Wow, is all I can say today after having 2 scrumptious meals. We decided to visit Tuk Tuk Thai Fusion this past Saturday. It was a great decision. I've been wanting to try this place for a while now after reading all the rave reviews. But, I just wanted to be sure that my husband could enjoy it with me. He loves hot & spicy, and we both love Thai food so it was the perfect dinner date. This restaurant is facing Gibsonton Drive in Riverview near US-301 in a strip mall. It's kind of covered up by Wendy's and Taco Bell, but apparently the people who live near by know exactly where it is. It's definitely popular. We saw people going in and out between 3:00 and 5:00pm with takeout orders as well as many people dining in. We were greeted as soon as we came through the door, and we found a seat right away.
They gave us a menu and took our drink order. I was immediately thrilled with all the pictures of the items on the menu. Don't you just love it when you can see it in a picture? I know I do. My husband was quick to decide which appetizers to get. He immediately wanted the Pad Thai Chicken Wings off the Chef's Special menu. We were asked what spice level, and we both agreed on medium. He wanted me to enjoy them too. Anything higher would have been too much for me. We also got the spring rolls. The rolls were average. I mean, you can get them anywhere. However, we absolutely loved the wings. The sauce was amazing and the chicken was so incredibly tasty and crispy. Really good stuff!
So, for the main meal my husband got the Thai hot drunken noodles with pork. He gets Thai hot all the time, and will get easily disappointed if it's not hot enough. Well, he was so happy with this dish. First of all, they used the actual chili pepper and not just the spice. That's exactly how he likes it. The noodles were very wide compared to other places where we've had it before. They also used a combination of ground and sliced pork which was also great. He declared it the best drunken noodles he has ever had. Yay, that means we're coming back for sure! Oh, and it passed his spice level test. He was sweating while eating it, but in a good way. He wouldn't have it any other way. I'm so glad he had a full carafe of water at the table. LOL!
I had the ramen tom yum shrimp at a medium spice level. It was fantastic! I have to say, I've never had tom yum soup before. But now I know I've been missing out by not ordering it. What a flavor explosion! Seriously, I've never had so many flavors in one bowl like this. I could taste the lemongrass, makrut lime leaves, cilantro, Thai chili, and just about every separate component in that dish. The added ramen is just a smart way to make it a meal. I had a lot left over. The ramen noodles soaked up the tom yum broth and made it even better the second day. It was soup for the soul. A very hearty and addicting soup. I really enjoyed it.
This place will definitely be part of our regular rotation. My husband already wants to go back... and very soon. He loved it! The service was also great, and I thought the portions were great for the price. I can't wait to try the curry dishes and the desserts next time. We didn't get dessert but the Thai donut with pandan custard was calling my name. I have to get that next time. Can't...
Read moreMy mom had heard from friends about how amazing Tuk Tuk was, so we were super excited to go. Our experience far surpassed any expectations we had.
The place is a quaint and modest little restaurant, with cool pictures and decor around the inside dropping shades of Thailand all around you.
They had an excellent selection of beer, Yuengling, Sapporo, Tsingtao, and a cool Thai lager I had never tried before called Chang. It was a fantastic light lager, I had three. 😂
We started with the crab rangoon. They were light and crispy, with plenty of crab saturated in the cream cheese filling. Their sweet and sour sauce also had just enough spice to it. Super delicious!
My mom ordered the Pad Thai shrimp, and though it was done with a smaller noodle than she was used to, she absolutely loved it. I ordered the red curry with Jasmine rice, which came out in the shape of a heart. Super cool touch. The curry was done with green beans, fantastically thinly sliced carrots, bamboo shoots, and coconut milk. I got it with tofu, and I love the way their tofu triangles were prepared. A little crispy on the outside and soft and delicious on the inside. I also had them do it hot. They will ask you how hot you want it on a range from not at all to Thai spicy. I decided not to go Thai spicy, just hot, and it was delightful. Just enough heat to make me sweat a little, but the flavor was phenomenal.
When they found out it was my mom's birthday, they offered to bring out their Thai donut dessert. My mom was expecting something from Dunkin' Donuts warmed up in the microwave, but that couldn't be further from what we got. Fresh fried dough, rivaling the finest Fair funnel cakes, and it came with two sauces, and I wish I could remember to tell you what they were called. One of them was a condensed milk and peanut sauce, and the other one was a green Pantene sauce, just the right amount of sweet and savory.
They all came out of the kitchen and sang Happy Birthday to my mom. We even met the owners, Paul and Tanya. Beautiful, delightful, wonderful human beings. I have to say, this was the perfect way to wrap up my surprise visit to my mom.
Anybody in the Orlando or Tampa/St. Pete area, if you get the chance, come check this place out. They've been around for like 8 years, and it's clear why. You'll thank me.
When you go in, tell them Wizzo sent...
Read moreWow, my boyfriend and I came here for the first time for our date night, let me say I am not disappointed! I have tried a few Thai restaurants around the area, but it was okay. They have a lot of good, delicious selection of food on their menu! The prices are reasonable! The atmosphere is very relaxing and the service is super friendly!
Updated: 09/24/24 Thai Coffee or Thai Tea is a must! The drink sweetness is very balanced and smooth. I also love the crushed ice they used.
For appetizers, we ordered crab rangoon, shrimp in a blanket, and calamari. The crab rangoon is mostly cream cheese, no crab taste. The shrimp in a blanket is my favorite, very simple shrimp wrap in wonton wrapping. The calamari tasted evenly crunchy and chewy inside.
Fried snapper with steamed veggies and sweet chili sauce. The tanginess of sweet and sour complement the snapper very well. The crunchiness of the crust and the softness of the snapper meat make this dish my favorite. Everything blends so well and very delicious.
The panang curry has a subtle sweetness and spicy (medium). You can taste sweetness of the coconut and the curry spice. When you eat the curry with rice, it’s so warm in your belly.
For dessert, the sticky mango rice is the best way to end the meal. The freshness of the mango and the sweetness of the coconut milk over the sticky rice harmonized so well together.
The decor of the restaurant is beautiful and the customer service is fast and welcoming. There’s enough room to have a party, meal with...
