Gold Star Family Restaurant — Restaurant in Rochester Hills

My husband and I stopped here to eat. I had read the great reviews and was excited to try this small diner. Bacon was crispy and delicious. Eggs were fresh. Pancakes were a little too sweet for my taste. But hubby loved them . I asked for an order of biscuits and gravy. That was a mistake. They were covered in sausage gravy. It looked like dog food. I asked the waitress if I could possibly get gravy separated. She said no,that's how they're made. My not so great stomach would have wreaked havoc on my system if I had even attempted to eat it. Anyway waitress said no, that's how they make it. I asked for the manager and she repeated the same response from waitress. I told her to take it off our bill as I wasn't going to eat it. It was a monstrous plate of food. She kept staring at me to see if I was going to go along with them. I said please take that off my bill. She did very reluctantly. Double check your bill!! I dined in and the waitress was not that friendly. I also ordered a carry out before leaving. When I got home I looked at the carry out bill again and realized I was charged $40 for a pita with fries and a side of wings! I knew this couldn’t be right. So I called and Donna answered, she acted like I was bothering her and told me to “hold on.” She gets back on the phone and said she would look into it and call me back. She called me back and said that I was overcharged by $10 and I could come pick it up. No apology at all. Their menu has quite a few options which is perfect for someone like me who gets a little picky when it comes to breakfast and can benefit others in my situation! The one thing I look forward to most when enjoying breakfast is the coffee and it’s quality is fairly important to me - with that being said, I was very disappointed in the quality of this establishments coffee and lack of any flavor. With the coffee aside, the atmosphere was on-par with a coney but had a slightly warmer feel. The staff was attentive but from my interpretation a little impatient (which could have been me just taking them the wrong way for whatever reason).
