Pappy's Place Restaurant — Restaurant in Rochester

We eat at Pappy's fairly often and have always enjoyed good food and great service. Last night, not so much. First our cocktails were very good, no complaints there. But some of our food was a different story. My wife had the Sea Scallops and I could tell from looking at them they were over cooked. She said they were dry and chewy. our friend ordered the Steak and Lobster special. The steak was cooked just fine, but at least a fourth of it was fat and grizzle. The lobster tail was over cooked as well. She said it was a bit tough and chewy. Our friends brother and I each had burgers and they were very good. Although they were busy, we felt ignored by our server and eventually had to flag her down to get our bill so we could pay. She acted like she was put out when we gave her our credit cards right away. Anyway, this isn't to cut down Pappy's, We will continue to dine there. But I think they need to know some of the food coming out of the kitchen, at least that evening was sub par for them. Way below their standards. What a gem! I stopped here while in Rochester for some Mayo appointments. I had read that they had an endless shrimp night that was highly reviewed so I figured I would give it a try. I am so glad I did! Being a solo diner I sat at a 4 top table (they didnt have any two tops), I always worry that a server may be annoyed that I take up a whole table instead of sitting at the bar (I am 7 years sober) but the waitress came over right away with a very friendly enthusiastic hello and let me know the specials and got my drink order. I ordered the endless shrimp with asparagus. I chose the mango bbq skewers and coconut shrimp for my first two orders and it came with a trip to the soup and salad bar. They have a faaaabulous salad bar! The beets are amazing and they have some of the best potato salad and coleslaw I have ever found on a salad bar. The lettuce and salad toppings were all very fresh and though I didnt check out the soup I am sure it was likely great as well. 10/10 salad bar. My shrimp and asparagus came out hot and delicious! The mango bbq shrimp was cooked perfect with a delicious grill flavor and that mango sauce was AWESOME. The coconut shrimp was perfectly crispy with that slight sweet from the coconut. I only wished it had come with a dipping sauce but I asked my server for an additional side of the mango sauce and voila!, perfect! Lastly, my asparagus was tender and perfectly seasoned. 10/10 fast friendly service, spectacular food, will recommend...

We went last Friday night- about 6:00pm. Parking lot was full, so we thought we would need to wait for a table. We were told 10 minute wait. Granted- it’s their best guess, but multiple tables were open and we weren’t seated. I was thinking maybe they were short staffed, and trying to each cover more individual tables? We waited 35 minutes and we’re finally seated, given menus. A lady came over 10 minutes later just to get our drink order, not food. She said she would be back for it. We set and talked another 20 minutes. No drinks, no food order taken. Others that came after us had drinks. We were a small part of 4. No idea if they didn’t know who our waitress was, or what the actual issue with getting service. We waited another 10 minutes- making time from when we walked in the door 90 minutes without any service other then being seated and drink order taken. We finally left and went down the street for wonderful Mexican food instead. Maybe it was just a bad night, I’m not sure. But zero customer service skills. Large menu, full bar (I’m guessing, they did take our drink order- just never received), salad bar, and evening specials listed. Mostly older crowd- everyone was 3x our age. Honestly 60’s and over...
