DiTullio's Italian Market & Cafe — Restaurant in Rockford Township

I was visiting family in from Chicago and found DiTullio’s Italian Cafe. I was impressed by the comments I read, so I said let’s give it a try. I noticed that they had no Italian bread for sale which is not normal for a Italian deli where I come from. I asked how do you make your sandwiches and the young lady said “we freeze our bread and take out as needed. I never experienced anything like that before. Bread is the most important piece of the sandwich. I figured I would try the Italian sandwich, menu price $10.95 -8 inch sub . They use mortadella which I don’t care for. I asked if they would substitute it for ham. No ham sorry, they explained. They said we have imported ham but it’s $2.00 up charge. So I went with the imported ham. FYI it tasted like a normal deli ham. I elected to try their olive salad which led to another nightmare. They said we only sell it by the pound. FYI I elected to try a scoop full that cost me $2.50 for literally 5 olives. I ordered 1/4 of fontinella cheese 1/4 of pound cost $2.69. Here is the problem with this story they use a scale that has no screen that indicates the weight and price to the customer to view. That is against Illinois weight and measure law. The bread was like eating the bottom of my shoe, probably because it was old and previously frozen. The young lady was rude and made me feel like I was a bother to her.

Hi My husband and I were looking for a good italian store with a good Italian sub like we use to get in chicago,,just moved here in 2023,,so we past your store many time,,looked it up thought we would try IT VERY DISAPPOINTED,,IT COST US 50.00 FOR TWO 6 INCH SUBS AND A SMALL CONTAINER OF OLIVES 15.74 TO BE EXACT ON THE OLIVES,,AND ALMOST 13.00 FOR EACH SUB ,,WHICH BY THE WAY,WERE DRY ,NO NOTHING ON THEM JUST MEAT AND PROVOLONE,,IM ITALIAN AN ORIGINAL ITALIAN SUB ,,HAS EGG PLANT SHREDDED LETTUCE,SHREDDED ONION OR SLICED,,MAYBE A SLICED TOMATOE,and a vinegar oil base,,plus they were very small,,for the price well never go back again the were you cand do is gouge the ppl and over price,,so so so disappointing,,I don't think we'll ever find subs like they had in chicago true ITALIANS SHOUT OUT TO TAYLOR STREET AND TONYS IN EDISON PK AND BOBORINOS,,GOD WE MISS THEM,,IF I HAD THE MOJO AND MONEY ID REALLY SHOW THE REAL ITALIAN WAY,,PLUS I WORKED AT MARIANOS HOT FOOD MADE MANY ITALIAN SANDWICHES,,LIKE THE MULFELATTA,,FROM A...

An absolutely underrated Rockford gem. I can't believe how many people in the Rockford area haven't heard about or yet tried DiTullio's.

Whether you're looking for a filling lunch that doesn't feel like it weighed you down for the day (thinking of you Veggie Panini!) or a delicious hot mocha with an extra shot of espresso to help you make it through the rest of your day - DiTullio's is ready to knock your socks off with it.

Plus, on almost any given day, you'll get the pleasure of watching the owner Anthony work around the shop. If the happy "Hey!" shouted across the counter at his regulars and the smiles radiating from such a welcoming greeting don't pull on your heart strings - I don't know what will.
