It was one of our last days in Maine and I was on a mission to find the best lobster roll I could find. When I read the Yelp and Google reviews for this place, I knew I had found my spot.
It's a small, no frills spot. The owner is super helpful and friendly. He'll proudly tell you why his lobster roll is the best.
He uses claw meat which makes it sweeter. The pieces are very small, so it is loaded with meat. The popular rolls you see use giant chunks of meat, but with all of the space between them, this one actually has more meat even if it doesn't seem like it. And lastly, he uses both butter and mayo on it.
I don't think I'll ever find a better lobster roll for the rest of my life. My husband claimed lobster rolls were overrated until we had this one. My only regret is that this was our second stop for food, so my husband and I shared one.
To top it all off, this was the cheapest meal we had in Maine. Most places will charge you at least $35-40 for anything that has lobster in it. I think we paid $20-$25 for our roll.
Whenever I'm in Maine, I will come here for another lobster roll, no matter how far out of my way...
Read moreCaptain Wayne Oxton is the real thing! A certified 1600 Ton Alaskan boat captain, he now lives full time in Rockland and serves up delicious lobster rolls (and more) 7 days a week. And the good news is that his lobster rolls are both generous and delicious. Don't expect chunks of tail or claw meat...Wayne's rolls are made (to order) using delicious knuckle and other smaller pieces of lobster. But man-o-man are they good! You can get your roll with mayo, butter or some of each. We chose all butter. Wayne first toasts your split top roll to order and then puts in the meat tossed to order. And...amazingly...the rolls are $24 each...not the prevailing local price of $32. And if you order two, as we did, the bill is $45. Add a bag of chips for $0.75 and a water for $1.50 and you are out the door for just about $50 with tax. We chose an optional tip of $10 so our final bill was $60.01. Well worth it and you can add in Wayne's tales of Alaska fishing at no...
Read moreDon't be fooled by it's simple appearance—Alaskan Captain and it's lobster rolls are phenomenal. And the man behind it all is friendly, welcoming and kind.
Let me start by saying that these are and I think forever will be—to me—the best lobster rolls in the world. And this is coming from someone that has unreasonably high standards for lobster rolls. Someone that, until having these lobster rolls thought he didn't like lobster rolls because they have all been mediocre. No other lobster roll even comes close.
So what makes their lobster rolls so special? I think it's two things:
They only use a blend of the smaller, sweeter pieces of lobster meat—claw, knuckle, and leg meat. You can order it with both butter and mayonnaise.
And the result is an exquisite, unforgettable lobster roll...
