Edit: I went back today because I was having a bad day, and despite my previous review I did previously enjoy the food. Not anymore. I went today to get a loaded fries combo for takeout. I had to walk and catch a bus in order to get home, so after getting home, and relaxing, I started eating. I ordered no heat, and to my horror my mouth was on fire. I eat jalapenos and green hot sauces mostly, but after I started eating a few pieces it started choking me with how hot it is. I gulped down all my water and tried to fight it back but no luck. I started crying, and my face felt like it was swelling.
I called the restaurant back and told the woman who answered I had received the wrong order and she told me she would grab the manager. After a moment, a man answered the phone claiming to be the manager. He told me I had ordered "an hour and a half ago", in truth it had been a little bit more than an hour, but I had to wait for a bus, and I told him this. He asked me what I wanted and I said either a refund or a replacement, and he said he wasn't going to give me a refund. Mind you my face was still tingling and numb while I'm speaking so I at least thought it was obvious the level of pain I was in. I told him he must be f-ing kidding me, and he told me not to CURSE. He kept telling me it had been an hour and a half, and that he wouldn't refund me, and I said I would go down there if I had to and show him my uneaten food to prove I had received the wrong order, I just had to take the next bus. After a short pause he said he would refund me and asked for my card info. I tried to tell him I was disappointed because I truly love their chicken and fries, but he hung up on me mid sentence.
I offered some to my partner who enjoys spice, who enjoys triple pepper Thai food and has had medium spice at Hangry Joes before. They agree this is medium spice or above, and a very bad mistake to make for someone who ordered no heat.
Overall, it now feels like a crapshoot to order from here knowing you're at the mercy of a cook who won't read a ticket and a manager who won't accept their kitchen could've made a mistake. One of these sauces requires a waiver! I need to know it's safe to eat there!
Save your money, GO TO A DIFFERENT LOCATION.
I will stress, the actual FOOD is still good, the problem is the spice I ordered was not what I received and the manager was unwilling to refund me until I was ready to go back down there to show him wrong. I cannot stress how much pain I was in while speaking with him, I think part of my lips and tongue were swollen while I was talking to him, and I couldn't feel portions of my mouth. This is an insane mistake to make for someone who ordered no spice. Thanks to anyone who actually reads this because I was hella pissed getting home after a long day of work, spending what little money I make on a nice meal for me and my partner, just to have it be overwhelmingly spicy and to be sassed for "taking to long to eat fast food" by a manager.
OLD REVIEW:
I really like the chicken from here, it's tasty. HOWEVER, I came here today to order the loaded fries, and I got like 90% chicken and 10% fries. This might sound great, but part of the reason I love this place is for the fries, and when they skimp me on them in an order of LOADED FRIES, and buying an extra side of fries is $4.50, I feel like I've got to say something. PLEASE give me more fries in the...
Read moreHaving been a resident of Los Angeles, I've felt the craze for Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich from friends and family alike. But after relocating back to the East Coast, I finally had the chance to see what this hype was about with Hangry Joe's Hot Chicken at the Rockville, MD restaurant.
The first thing I noticed off-the-bat was the fiery design and decor highlighted by a large painting of what looked like Hangry Joe himself. This wall painting was inviting, invirgorating, and in fact challenged me to go spicy!
The restaurant was in impeccable condition, extremely clean and organized. The touchscreen order kiosk was trendy but simple to use. The staff were all polite, professional, and friendly. Even the restroom was very clean!
I ordered the spicy Chicken Sando, spicy Chicken Fingers meal, and Strawberry Milkshake to dine in.
The spicy Chicken Sando has a kick to it. Nice blend of spices and a heat which matched. Was perfectly breaded having crisp and crunch to it, all the while the chicken being juicy tender. The slaw and sauce perfertly complimented the chicken and the delicate buns rounded out the sandwich for sure!!
The Chicken Fingers and Criss-cut Fries were delicious as well!! Like the Chicken Sando, the Chicken Fingers were very juicy and moist. They were nicely breaded and I could taste the freshness, as the dishes are breaded and cooked to order everytime. Definitely satisfied the crave and left full!! The Strawberry Milkshake was freshly whipped with a lot of strawberry ice cream right in the front at the milkshake bar and was a great ender to this all in all spectacular meal! It was creamy, cold, and full of strawberries.
For Chicken Lovers out there in the area looking for some awesome Chicken or Spicy Chicken Sandwich and Chicken Fingers, you have to go here! This is a great place for 1, a date, or a large gathering of friends!
Even after 5 days, I can't get this meal out of my mind and I look forward to going back soon! Fully deserving 5 Stars!! Hangry Joe's here...
Read moreI am no Nashville hot chicken connoisseur, but everything about this place is a 10/10. The lady working the front of the store was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and offered to walk me through the menu and various spice levels.
I ordered the mild chicken sando combo and medium level wings. The sandwhich came out so aesthetically pleasing and the first bite revealed how fresh and juicy the filet was. I could not believe I was eating white meat (I usually complain that chicken sandwhiches should be made with dark thigh meat so they taste less dry). This is leagues above anything Popeyes, KFC, Wingstop Chic Fila, or anyone else has to offer. The spice blend on the chicken coating was exceptional, without being too overpowering. Mild level still offered a decent kick and the slaw / pickles and hangry sauce on the sandwich perfectly complimented each other. The ratio of all ingredients was perfect.
The medium wings had a perfect level of spice, which was a substantial increase from the mild sandwhich. They were also super juicy, crisp on the outside, and not greasy at all. You could tell they were never frozen, and made with the highest quality chicken.
The waffle fries were seasoned beautifully and cooked to perfection. They retained a crisp through out the meal and never got soggy.
I was surprised I never had to reach for ketchup like I usually do, because the hangry sauce offered the perfect sweetness, along with being a bit creamy and flavorful.
There is a Korean chicken place across the street (CM / Gama chicken) but I will no longer be going there as Hangry Joe's just proved their superiority in every...
