Very colorful and fun looking place and was pretty busy at the time we were there. They have a robot that delivers some items which was interesting, BUT, as one of the people were trying to get their food from the robot, it started running away. It was definitely entertaining. The staff was very nice but didn’t offer a suggestions when stated we had never been there before. Menu: they over ramen, boba, sushi, and desserts. There is definitely a plethora of food you can choose from. Now on to the food reviews.
Futo maki roll: this one had crab, egg, qnd avacodo in it, wrapped in seaweed. I think it had a piece of mango in it? I’m not sure. It wasn’t bad, a very mild taste. Just on the plain side with very little flavor. Sunset roll: this one had crab and tempura shrimp with what I believe is a spicy mayo? Again, not sure what all was in it, but another that kind of tasted plain Jane. I added wasabi and ginger to both. Yellowtail sushi: this was raw yellowtail on top of rice. The rice was warm, which was different. Usually whenever this is ordered, the rice has never been warm, so not sure if it is suppose to be or not. The yellowtail had a strong fish taste and smell to it, which again, was not what we were use to. Eel roll: another plain Jane tasting roll. We expected some taste to it. Three color roll: these were hot, very colorful, had more flavor than the other items ordered, but still, something was missing. Served raw. Triple roll: mediocre in taste. 3 different types of fish I believe. Served raw. Again, something was missing. Milk tea with strawberry popping boba: this was the best part of the meal. Don’t get this one confused with the fruit milk which has crushed strawberries in it. I prefer the milk tea as it is not as strong of a strawberry taste. Lemon strawberry tea: tasted way too sweet. Too much syrup. There are fruit chunks in it, but be careful if you are allergic to lime as it is added in there. -the soy sauce was way beyond salty. Yes, it should be salty but not like this. It almost tasted like it was bad, but the container they had it in was cute. -the chopsticks were a better grade than we are use to. Wish everyone had those kind of chopsticks. -plenty of parking and outside seating available. -there was no wait for seating.
Major CON: not receiving our plates at the same time. I received mine first while my husband had to wait about 10 minutes for his plate to come out. The table next to us also received their food before we did when we had ordered well before they did.
We did like that pictures were provided on the menu to see what you were ordering.
So overall?
Pros: -Not as pricey as some locations -trendy -robot was cool -boba tea was on point -portions appropriate -super friendly staff -no wait for seating with plenty of parking -clean -pictures on the menu
Cons: -not having our dishes served at the same time -food was kind of plain -tea was syrupy -not much wait staff interaction -the robot ran away with someone’s food! -the soy sauce tasted off/bad -although not as pricey as some locations, some items were pricier than we are use to, which did not match the quality of the food.
So ultimately, check it out for a robot experience, but don’t expect extravagant tastes in regards to the sushi. I think we will try the ramen next if we decide to return..
UPDATE: my husband and I both became very sick after eating..we barely had time to make it home. Though the atmosphere was pretty fun, we will now NOT be returning. I changed my rating from a 3 to a 2. I didn’t change it to a 1 as we did enjoy the wait staff...
Read moreWe usually drop by Funshi after our Target shopping to grab sushi and other takeout, but this time, we decided to dine in for a change. The atmosphere is youthful, with bright, colorful interiors and lively music! The place is clean, and the staff are incredibly friendly. We have chatted with Irene one time, and she was really welcoming and shared some insights about her and the place.
For this visit, I ordered the Chashudon, a pork belly rice bowl, while my boyfriend opted for two kinds of sushi. We shared a plate of Korean chicken wings and finished off with cheesecake for dessert—and oh my God! They have the best cheesecake ever. I’ve tried cheesecake from different places, and I was genuinely surprised that a simple vanilla cheesecake from a sushi/ramen restaurant would top my list. It’s creamy, soft, and has a caramel-like taste with just the right amount of sweetness. Every bite feels like heaven.
Another favorite of mine is their Korean chicken wings, which I always order when we do our regular visits. One thing I’ve noticed, though, is that the flavor isn’t always consistent. That said, they’re still one of the best for me—crispy on the outside, tender on the inside.
As for the Chashudon, the plating was beautiful and appetizing, with vibrant colors from the meat, boiled egg, and assorted veggies. However, the flavor fell a bit flat, and the dish seemed a little dry. For the price, I wouldn’t order it again unless they make some improvements.
My boyfriend always gets their sushi, and I’ve tried a few kinds myself. I’m planning to sample all of them over time, but so far, the ones I’ve tasted have been fresh and delicious. We’ve also had the takoyaki before, which will definitely be a repeat order in the future.
Of course, one of their specialties is ramen, so this is my go-to spot whenever I crave restaurant-quality ramen. Their stir-fried beef udon is also great, but it’s a bit pricey given the portion size. One small detail I love is their adorable takeout bags, which keep the food warm. I wish we could return some for reuse since we've accumulated quite a few from our frequent orders, but I’m not sure if that would be a food safety issue.
They also have a great selection of boba tea. We got the coffee jelly milk tea which was really good. I have tried the brown surge boba tea before which is a classic flavor and would reorder again. I also tried mango coconut foam in the past, but I was not a fan personally. Maybe because I didn't consume it right away and it may have affected the taste.
Overall, I highly recommend trying out Funshi—fresh food and a fun...
Read moreI tried this restaurant yesterday with my nephew and our experience was generally okay with - somewhat - good food (and I'm being generous, considering it's fairly new). There were many things that we didn't like and that don't encourage me to try this place again.
First, the staff seemed all over the place and no one greeted us or explained how dining works here. Our first impression when we walked in was that it was a restaurant-chain style, where you would order and pick-up your food and then seat yourself. Then, when someone finally paid attention to us, we were seated at a table that was not clean, with hairs and crumbs, even though the place wasn't packed.
Next, we were just told to scan the menu and that was it. Different servers would pass by and ignore us, and while the lady who eventually took our order was friendly, little to no attention was given to our table. We did a bunch of the things ourselves, from looking for a paper menu, to going up to the register to pay. The overall service was very, very slow and my nephew's dish came out way earlier than mine; we waited a good 20 min for the rest of the dishes and then had to ask for some missing items.
The food itself tasted good, but it is way overpriced considering the portions given. I ordered the miso ramen bowl with chicken, which came in very thin strips with only about five pieces, and the broth took over the entire bowl. It felt like I was eating soup with only a few veggies.
The sushi was pretty average and similar to grocery store sushi, to be honest. We ordered the "Sunset Roll" that had very small pieces and barely any sauce on top. As for the drinks, they are advertised as large, but they're far from that. For $6 you only get a very slim average-sized cup filled halfway with ice; I had asked for little ice, but the rest was filled with an overly sweet syrup and lemon peels which had a bunch of pits that I kept having to spit out--it was very unpleasant and was one of the most overpriced drinks I've ever had.
For $80+ this supposedly "dine-in" experience left much to be desired. I believe they'd benefit from switching to a restaurant-chain style, because the experience was definitely way below average for a full dine-in service. I would...
