Coal Creek Coffee — Restaurant in Rocky Top

My husband and i are HUGE coffee people.

Coffee wasn't great. Black coffee was ice cold when we received it the first time went They offered to microwave but, no thank you. Wish they would've offered a pour over or a new pot. My latte tasted as if they didn't use espresso but watered down brewed coffee. We came late so we didn't want to base this experience on the overall feeling of the store.

2nd time we went we came in the morning on a Friday. they were out of a lot of seasonal items as well as nondairy alternatives. They couldn't make cold foam due to the frother breaking. They didn't have lids for a lot of their cups sizes My husband ordered a dirty chai and it just tasted like.watered down brewed coffee and hot water.. no espresso taste or Chai taste. I wish they would've put a note saying the things there were out of or.leading with that because everything I chose something it was "sorry can't do that" and it was becoming frustrating. But as a small business with a couple and their child we didn't want to just leave.

The overall cleanliness really threw us off as well. A lot of stuff cluttering the front room like bags of stuff and vacuums. Crumbs all over the floor.

This is the worst coffee I have ever had in my life. I took a sip and immediately tossed it in the trash. I ordered the brown sugar beverage, and there were so many sugar crystals in the bottom. For the ones who make the drink, remember to let the espresso melt the sugar first. It might have been better if that were done. No one wants a gritty coffee.

The coffee also tasted like maybe espresso machine needs to be cleaned. I used to be a barista in Knoxville, and I noticed our coffee would not taste as great if we slacked on cleaning the machine itself. I cleaned it every single morning.

I also noticed they were sitting and eating with a baby. When we ordered, no one washed their hands or anything. I feel this is unsanitary as hands should be washed properly before preparing a drink for someone.

That being said, the ladies in there were very nice. They were excited to have a customer. The atmosphere was inviting, and I appreciated the kindness. If you want to support a local business, go here and try it. I may have not ordered the best drink. It may have been better to go for a drink that is syrup based. DON’T GO THERE! Owner just called me a liar in their response and blocked me! Proof right there the type owner and how truthful this statement is:

Usually detours off the interstate are happy accidents while traveling for work. You get to explore little towns off the beaten path. Well this time, it was anything but happy! Detoured through this little town called Rocky Top, TN. I stopped at this “coffee shop.” I use quotations because it is anything but a coffee shop. It took them FOREVER to take the order and make it! BUT they had PLENTY of time to talk about people leaving the coffee shop. Not in a good way either, nasty rude comments about how they look, their clothing, their hair, body shaming even included! I am sure comments were made about me after I left that day as well, she was commenting on EVERYBODY behind their back. Some advice to that lady, when you look like an extra from the “hills have eyes” maybe you should lead with grace, and keep you thoughts inside your head!
