China Chef — Restaurant in Romulus

As a family, we’ve been coming here for over 30+ years. Today was maybe the last time I’ll be going to this restaurant. Frequently, I order the Wonton soup which comes with fried chips to dip in your soup. For years, this soup has been the tastiest Wonton soup I’ve ever had. Sadly, this time the chips tasted like cigarette smoke and or rancid and my stomach didn’t feel well shortly after. This has never happened after all these years. Secondly, the soup tasted like it was partially compensated with chicken bouillon. The Wonton soup tasted awful. Lastly, the owners were rude, snippy and when I walked into the empty waiting area, it smelled like cigarette smoke. It makes me wonder what kind of health codes are being violated while they’re preparing their food. As previously stated, my family and I have been coming here for 30+ years and this is not the same yummy Chinese restaurant we’ve become accustomed to. Hopefully, this review reawakens their desire to produce quality food again. I anxiously await.

UPDATE: The owner has just responded with an outrageous lie. The containers I brought back were not empty and they still refused to give me a full refund after saying they’d give me one on the phone. Most importantly, please notice how they refuse to acknowledge the issue with the food. If there was a no-smoke policy, I’m still questioning why my food tasted like cigarettes and why the restaurant stunk of it. This place is what it is. A small restaurant in a bad hood, doing its best. I do not go here for the $75 a plate ambiance, I love the food. I have eaten all over the planet and for the money, you can't do better. I have special dietary restrictions, and they accommodate me with pleasure, even add where they take off for me. The egg rolls are great, portions too big, service is fast, take out quick, Garlic sauce phenomenal! Staff is dressed in regular clothing, real family kinda restaurant. If i could give this place Zero stars, I would. I walk in the the entire restraunt is covered in dust. The walls are decaying. The fish tank smells like it hasnt been cleaned in weeks. I sit down with a friend and we order drinks. Her pop was just handed to her in a can, warm. And My ice water had specs of dirt in it. In which I refused to drink. The staff were dressed in street clothes, one still in pjamamas. I was only in there for 5 mins before the smell made me sick to my stomach and I had to leave.
