Bob's Deli — Restaurant in Roseburg

Let’s start by setting ground rules.

This is Roseburg.

It is lunch time.

I’m looking for a quick, cheap sandwich, one to take back to the office, so I can continue living the high life by eating at my desk as I work through my lunch break.

Hello, Bob’s Deli.

The business recently changed hands and, as if often the case, I heard conflicting reports as to whether the place had gone downhill, got better or slid sideways.

I’m happy to report Bob’s Deli is visibly cleaner, brighter and still briskly attracts locals. I saw workers from Video Games Plus, Midas and AutoZone during my last visit.

Two cheery ladies worked behind the counter at lunch time. Service was brisk, friendly and efficient.

Whole hoagies are $8.99 and can be split to mutual satisfaction. Whole sandwiches are $6.99. Bob’s Deli offers two featured hoagies: the Grinder — ham, salami, pepperoni, provolone, pesto, mayo, mustard, oil, vinegar, onion, bell pepper, tomato, lettuce, salt and pepper; and the Works — ham, turkey, roast beef, mustard, horseradish, cream cheese, cheddar, swiss, tomato, onion, lettuce and sprouts.

Is Bob’s an authentic deli? No. For that experience, I’d need to drive three hours to Portland for a meal at Kenny & Zuke's Delicatessen (yes, it is worth the trip). For a quick, reasonable sandwich in Roseburg,...

I drove by this place for a year before finally going in because it doesn't look terribly inviting. But, because of its convenient location, I finally went in. The first time, the woman who helped me was incredibly friendly and helpful. My BLT was amazing. I went back a second time and was blown away by how rude the employee was (a different person). She yelled at me to fill out my order on a form, which I didn't know because the first lady didn't have me do that. She was so rude and demeaning the whole time. Thankfully, my sandwich tasted good. I decided to go a third time because it was convenient to my location. I had 20 minutes, which should have been plenty of time. However, it took two employees so long to make the three sandwiches ahead of mine that I was late to my next appointment. One of the women was so rude to the customer in front of me that he eventually demanded a refund. I've worked in retail and food service and I have never seen someone treat a customer (undeservedly) so rudely. I gave them three chances, but I...

Recently I went Bob's Deli, I got food and was eating like normal when suddenly I see a slot machine in the corner. I had some extra quarters so I decided to play some slots, I was minding my business when suddenly an old man ran past the slots with no pants on, a man who I could only assume was Bob himself and stole the money I had sitting on the machine. Before I had time to react, I was dropped into a trapdoor that opened up beneath me, as I was falling I saw him running into the bathroom. Thankfully I was able to grab onto the edges of the trapdoor and pull myself up. After all this, I see him run out of the bathroom with a bike lock and he rushes out the door and locks it with the bike lock. He started dancing and stripping naked with my money in his mouth. Luckily my perfect aiming skills led me to throw my phone at a window to try and break it but I realized the window was already open so I threw my phone out of it.
