To say this has gone downhill is an understatement. When it first opened it was pretty good. Decent (not great) food, clean, generous portions, decent service, etc. Probably deserving of a solid 3+ out of 5. Now, I struggle to even give it 1 star.
They have tried to reinvent this place into a mini-pinballz or Spare Time, mostly unsuccessfully. The "restaurant" has been relegated to a smallish dining room with maybe 14 tables. I suspect most of their business comes from people in the bowling alley ordering food because they are a captive audience.
Almost all of the redeeming qualities it once had are gone. Simply put, we had just a generally unpleasant and bad experience overall... one small disappointment after another. Most of the negatives were relatively
When we arrived, there was a short wait (25 mins, no big deal). They have the common modern system where they text you when the table is ready. We shopped a bit while we waited. They give you a little URL where you can check your spot in line... It said we were 15th, which was obviously not true. We were more like 2nd in line. I'm pretty sure that # simply included the number of people who were waiting for bowling or something. That was my first clue that the restaurant was an "afterthought" for them now.
When we were seated, the first thing we noticed was how filthy the floor was (pics attached), especially under OUR table. I'm not a clean freak or anything but it was NASTY. The table itself was clean (the spray bottle was still on the table for proof... Classy).
Two different people stopped by to say "your server will be right by". A few uncomfortable minutes later, he showed up to take our drink orders. To be fair, he was also given a table of 10 at the same time. About 5 minutes later (seemed like forever) we were getting frustrated. The large table was on their 2nd refill of various drinks and we had nothing. Finally he brought 3 out of 4 drinks. 2 kid's waters and a Coke. My unsweet tea was missing and the coke was flat. He said the tea was still brewing (then he brought that other table another "half and half" sweet/unsweet tea, mysteriously) and he would check on the coke machine and bring a new one. Hey, at least the kids were taken care of.
About 15 minutes later, another person brought our food. 2 kids pizzas (small round ones that look like frozen persona pizzas), a burger for my wife (missing the lettuce and tomato she requested), and my shrimp po-boy. I had asked for grilled shrimp instead of the default fried and they got it right (brownie points!). They came back with the missing hamburger toppings and my tea (with lime, as ordered... Another details-related kudos).
All of the meals were served on the same sized large plastic round plate covered with a piece of checker-patterned paper. The burger was small and the overcooked fries were of average portions, but it all looked tiny on that huge cheap plate. It certainly didn't look, taste, or weigh up to what a $14 burger and fries should be. My shrimp sandwich was actually pretty good, but also undersized for the price. The kids pizzas were pretty lame (I stole a bite) and the applesauce it came with was simply one of those grocery store plastic cups with the foil still on it)... All plopped on the huge tray-like plate as if it were a buoy in a lake.
In short: the place was filthy, the server was really nice but, bless his heart, was just really not very good. With the exception of my grilled shrimp the food was struggling to make a mediocre grade and was WAY over-priced. Our bill was $54 for a sandwich, a burger, 2 mini kids pizzas, two non-alcoholic drinks, and a 15% tip just because I felt sorry for the waiter.
I can confidently and emphatically say that will be my last trip to Uncle Buck's... That is, unless I get the hankering for a flat coke or want to just hang out to feel better about the cleanliness of...
Read moreI've been to this place in the past and loved it, but this review is for my trip yesterday and a one time experience that I hope to never have again in the future. Yesterday (Sunday) my husband and I went to the bowling alley here, after planning and inviting a group of friends for a triple date. We had purchased a Groupon for 6 Valid on a Saturday-Sunday only that included an hour of bowling, shoes, 2 pizzas and 2 pitchers of soda. we arrived at 4:40PM - over 3 hours before they close and asked to put our names on the list. We were then told that they were no longer accepting groupons that evening (As there wasn't enough time left in the night) and we could put our names down to bowl, but we'd have to pay for it. We had invited 2 other couples who were nearly there and had driven 30 minutes to meet us, and had this event planned for days, so we were too embarrassed to cancel our plans once they arrived, so we went ahead and put our names down. We asked to speak to a manager, and he wasn't very apologetic over the issue and said they weren't taking anymore groupons that night. Our Groupon is set to expire in 25 days and we don't have anymore free evenings before then to go so I was feeling quite upset that we'd already paid the expense for the evening once, and they wouldn't accept it and we had to pay an additional $75 to proceed with our planned evening. We asked if we could in the future call ahead to prevent this from happening and the manager said that they don't take reservations so there was no real guarantee even if we did call ahead. Why did we have the time to bowl if we wanted to pay twice for it, but not if we were using a voucher we pre-paid for? If they don't want to accept vouchers, they shouldn't offer them, or should put a note into the wording of the voucher explaining that there is a time frame on when you're able to use them - There is literally no condition written into the groupon saying it's only valid during a certain time, I purchased the one that is for weekend bowling and assumed it would work. I've gone with another group of friends on their groupon during the same day and time and been allowed to bowl in the past so it's silly we were turned away from using it when in fact there WERE lanes open and available that evening. I'm VERY displeased with the entire evening, and I had ordered a drink when we did finally get our lane and the server brought all of the other drinks and orders but mine and then was gone and never returned during our game. We did end up eating the pizzas we had planned on since we had promised our friends there would be dinner, and had to pay $38 for 2 very mediocre, chuck-e-cheese quality pizzas. I used to recommend this place and am disappointed that I can no longer do so. Don't get your kids hopes up on a night of fun here, as you may be turned away for no apparent or...
Read moreI don't usually leave reviews but this was maybe the worst customer service I've ever encountered. The two of us came in and purchased a half hour of bowling at the front counter. The staff member gave me my receipt and told us we were on lane 2. We went to our lane, changed into our bowling shoes and walked to the bar to order food and drinks. If you've been here, you know the bar is a very short distance away from each lane and you can easily see each lane from the bar. Less than 5 minutes from leaving our lane, while standing and paying at the bar, I see another group sit down at our lane and start changing their shoes and setting up their game. I quickly walked back over to our lane and apologetically told them they had been sent to our lane. So now this group heads back to the counter to sort things out with the staff. Then an employee comes over to us and asks if I'm sure we're at the right lane. I explain to her, "yes, he said we were on lane 2 and pointed over here". She then says, with plenty of attitude, "did you PAY for lane 2?" So right off the bat, she has the nerve to accuse us of not paying. I show her my receipt, she looks at it, and without saying anything or apologizing, she turns around and walks back to the counter. We start our game and get about 10 minutes in when ANOTHER employee walks over to us and asks to see my receipt again. That was enough for us to leave. A word of advice for the staff: When you make a mistake that inconveniences your customer, you don't accuse them of being in the wrong place and not paying. And you certainly don't double down with the same accusation 10 minutes later after the situation was resolved and both parties had their own lane to bowl on. Not once did anyone offer a simple "sorry". Instead, all we got were dirty looks and attitude from staff. Food was really bad too. This place won't last much longer with horrible customer service and bad food, and after reading a few other reviews, I can see that the experience we had is...
