I don’t ever give negative reviews for restaurants, but here I am… We went to the avocado for dinner. There are some great Mexican restaurants in the area, but they were already closed. We figured we’d try something new. The server brought us chips and salsa that weren’t bad. We liked them enough that we ordered a nacho appetizer. Our nachos came out and instantly we knew we had made a mistake. They used cheese whiz that you’d slab onto a hot dog. I’ve been to restaurants that use melted queso, but this was the straight up jarred cheese. A minimal amount of the white parts of a tomato were sprinkled on top along with jalapeños and olives. It was pathetic looking dish I ever saw. It tasted the same.
We brought up our concerns to the server. They asked what the issue was and we pointed out that there was barely anything on them other than Kraft cheese whiz. Usually restaurants use real cheese whether it be shredded or melted. We also mentioned there’s usually some meat or guacamole, beans etc. The only option we were given was to upgrade the nachos to include beef and guacamole. That was a different menu item (our mistake). We figured it’d at least make them actual nachos. The server brought the nachos into the kitchen. What came back was even worse.
They loaded it with so much unseasoned ground beef and cheese wiz it completely submerged and drenched the chips making them soggy and incapable of eating or of transporting any of the nacho ingredients into my mouth. It came with a small cup of guacamole that I can’t comment on because I had no chips to eat it with.
Our entrees were delivered to us and at this point I already knew how they’d taste. They weren’t as offensive as the nachos, but they were not good. My Al Pastor burrito was very oily and barely wrapped. I ended up opening the tortilla up and eating the filling. My wife’s chicken salad had chicken that was so dry you’d think it was jerky. This all totaled $65 which is fine dining prices for the most embarrassing meal I’ve ever had. I left feeling scammed.
They had Mexican Coca Cola which...
Read moreI might as well had taken a 20 and a 10 dollar bill, balled it up as tightly as I could and then chucked it in the trash because buying food from here was a waste of money. I ordered asada street tacos. Immediately upon opening the container, I noticed a thick wad of wilted and discolored brown cilantro. I was shocked. They had the nerve and the gull to actually serve obviously old food. Some of the leaves were green but some were brown. All of it was soggy. I immediately lost my appetite. After trying my best to scrap off the rotting produce I tried to taste what was left. The asada was dry and flavorless. The rice and beans were simply okay. The portions were small. Very small considering how much I paid for everything. I will never eat here again. I don’t recommend anyone else eat here.
EDIT
This is an updated response to the owner’s comments on my review. First and foremost, Mexican food is my favorite cuisine. I LOVE Mexican food and have had it from many different restaurants. I frequently make my own Mexican dishes at home when I have the time. I have cooked with cilantro plenty of time so I know how to tell fresh cilantro from cilantro that is old and wilted. This cilantro was not fresh. It had nothing to do with the heat.
As for a call or a refund, my wallet is till very much open to the idea. However, it doesn’t change the fact that people deserve to know the truth. People deserve to know what they are spending their hard earned money on. Times are hard and eating out is getting more and more expensive. The quality should always be top notch.
I am not the only person who has left you a one star review. I can see and read both the good and the bad reviews. I decided to take a chance on your restaurant and unfortunately, my experience aligned with the bad reviews. Perhaps it is a hit or miss. If that is the case, talk to your staff and tell them the importance of being on point at all times so that you don’t miss out on continuing customers and new customers coming to your restaurant for the first...
Read moreFirst time we ordered from this place and sadly, it was by far, the worst Mexican we’ve ever had! We love Mexican cuisine and are always on the hunt for great (reasonably local) authentic Mexican food. The Avocado Grill claims to serve “authentic Mexican flavors and traditional family dishes”, but since when is cheese whiz or Velveeta cheese covered nachos ‘authentic’ in Mexican cuisine?? We ordered the nachos supreme with chicken and to say we were disappointed doesn’t even describe our level of disappointment. They were drenched in salty, creamy cheese whiz — tasted just like movie theater nachos, except with higher quality tortilla chips! My husband ordered the chicken chimichanga and I had the chicken enchiladas with mole. Everything was dry, rubbery and there was absolutely no flavor to the rice, although it was very colorful. As far as I the mole goes, I seek this sauce out purposefully as it’s my all time favorite. The authentic sauce is supposed to be smoky, pretty spicy and very flavorful (as it has a ton of various spices). Unfortunately their mole sauce was very lacking of everything it’s supposed to be. It tasted very sweet, more chocolatey and like it came straight out of a jar or can. Needless to say, the food was absolutely terrible and and we will never be ordering from here again. If we could rate it less than 1 star, we absolutely would in...
