I used to enjoy this resteraunt. Food was never the best but it was a nice small town diner. However, yesterday I went in and ordered a simple wrap with no cheese, I explained that this was an allergy for my daughter who is currently nursing and it will make her very sick. They brought it out FULL of cheese. I understand that mistakes are made and immediately alerted the waitress. Rather than apologizing or acting understanding, she was very short with us, rude even. They bring it back out and she says "better?" I agree that it is, until I take a bite. They didn't remake the food they just pulled a majority of the cheese off. At this point I was frustrated, I had consumed a small amount of dairy that I had worked so hard to avoid. I called out the waitresss and again tried to explain the situation just to be met by rudeness and a lack of compassion. Finally they brought it out correct, no apology, no sincerity. My dad, who was with me, was frustrated and when the bill came he asked for a break on the wrap due to the major error. The lady and the desk was rude and said she didn't have that authority and would go ask. When she gets back to the kitchen to ask someone, we hear a very loud remark of "Oh my god! Are you kidding me?" I understand mistakes are made, but the blatant disrespect and lack of compassion or any human understanding has ruined this resteraunt for me. If you have an allergen, I suggest another resteraunt that will actually honor your requests. I've had better experiences at subway, sonic, even mcdonalds. Extremely disappointed and saddened by...
Read moreWe should have listened to the bad reviews! This place has horrible service and food, an unpleasant experience all around. We were in Russel for a business trip and won’t be back to this restaurant if we return. This place is way overpriced for what they offer. If you are looking for somewhere to eat, try one of the other places in Russel, they can’t all be this bad or drive 2+ hours to get some place with standards.
The servers that were there spent their time huddled around one table, not sure if they were family or what. This table had ordered what we had, and the servers offered them a special dessert and bragged to them that "It was not even out of the buffet". When we asked if there was any dessert we were told "It's whatever is on the buffet", there was no dessert available. The salad they offered was discolored, the hot items seemed like they had been out for hours as there was obvious crust around the serving pan. When they brought out fresher items, they just poured them on top of the old stuff.
This is also the first time I have seen a restaurant serve “chicken fried” catfish, still trying to wrap my head around that. A flavorless piece of fish fried in their chicken coating; I hope they at least used a fresh batch of dredge that wasn’t used for poultry. Was offered none of what the menu says come with an entrée and honestly, I am glad of that, was barely able to keep down what I did eat which was not much.

Read moreUpdate 9-16-24; we were finally back in the area after 3 years and there's no way I was going to pass up going back to Meridy's. The salad bar still looks superb and a couple at a nearby table confirmed it was,, but of course I only had eyes for the outstanding ribeye. It was still just as awesome! This time my wife got in on the action and she agreed wholeheartedly. All the service was completely excellent and prompt. We will certainly be going back yet again whenever we are back in the area. Original Review: If I could give more than five stars I would. Near the end of a multi-state driving vacation we found this relatively unimposing restaurant in Kansas that had received surprisingly excellent reviews on Google. I can testify they were completely earned! I had the "small" ribeye which clocked in at 24 oz and it was the best cooked steaks I have had in a very very long time. Charred perfectly for full flavor at a perfect medium rare. My wife had a Porterhouse pork chop that was equally excellent. The modest salad bar was fresh and quite satisfactory and the larger buffet look to have a lot of good items, in particular fried chicken. The waitress even ran out to return something to us that we left on the table , clearly above and beyond. It is probably good that they are not anywhere near our home and yet I still...
