We couldn't have been happier with our experience with this establishment and the people who run it. The front of house cashier/waiter was truly educational and very attentive. I believe his name was Abdhul. He answered every question we had with a legitimate smile. The lady of the house was also very accommodating with fixing the smallest issue we had arise. The location is very clean, while also showcasing more than a mom and pop feel. We thought we had walked into a chain location due to the signage and professional aesthetic of the building. I believe there were about 15 tables to sit down at. They offer both a la cart beverages; such as bottled ginger beer, a non-alcoholic malt beverage, coconut water, etc; they also have a soda fountain machine with free refills. The food was SO flavorful. The rice alone was great, with a perfect consistency. My husband likened it to biryani, but 10x better. The seasoning on everything was absolutely superb! The gyro and beef kabob, just a chef's kiss. The pita, soft and pillowy. We enjoyed hearing that all the inhouse sauces and spice blends were made everyday from scratch. The green chutney was spicy with a bit of tanginess. Similar to a taqueria green hot sauce with a Mediterranean flair. The tahini, also great to pair with our meals. And if you like baklava, you're in for a treat. Theirs is some of the best we've come across, airy flakey philo dough that's super saturated with honey and pistachios. I stole my husband's.
This review is probably a month past our visit, but it's still been on our minds. We will be back, can't wait...
Read moreI asked to swap out lamb for steak on a gyro. I do not eat lamb. After a lengthy condescending tone on their part conversation, I was told it could be done and paid. Upon paying I was told it could not be done by a “manager.” I was refunded. For some reason the woman thought I needed to know how she had to enter it into her computer system. Working in the service industry for 16+ years ourselves self employed, all I needed to be told is “yes ma’am, we can do that for you.” Instead we were told we were being aggressive by saying if you cannot swap out the lamb for steak, then we will go somewhere else in a very polite tone. I even tried to speak with the woman and tell her that her responses were condescending in nature, especially to a possible customer. The staff does not seem to know how to handle any type of conflict in a correct manner. There are ways to handle when something goes wrong in a business setting. This was not the way to handle it. We were very excited to try this place for the first time since we make these at home all of the time. Do not understand why you cannot substitute a protein, but will never go back after the way it was handled. Sad because we need new places around here. Lived here for 15+ years and good customer service will get you every time. Do not waste your money or just order to go so that you don’t have to interact with the staff. Very disappointed. Drove to Kostas in Plano and had...
Read moreI have tried several places around the NE side of Dallas and they have the BEST gyros I've found. Nearly as good as the ones I used to get in Italy and better than the ones I had in Greece! The meat is not particularly notable, but the proportions of all the ingredients on the gyro overload (with extra seasoning) is just the way I like it.
Though the food usually takes a little longer than I would expect, the counter staff are always polite and helpful. On my last visit, I called about 20 minutes ahead and they had my gyro ready when I got there, so I was able to grab it and go. (I don't recommend eating it while driving, however, as it's a bit too messy!) The furniture and decor are modern and functional. I wouldn't recommend it for a fancy date, but to just hang out together with friends or family, it is pretty decent.
The bathroom is always reasonably clean and the dining room is kept tidy, but the floor can be slippery at times.
I make it a point to stop nearly every time I pass through Sachse. If you like great gyros, I feel you would be remiss to pass it up!
Update: Visited again... My 17-y/o son said, "I remembered these (Gyros) were good, but not THIS good!" He was absolutely stuffed with the gyros...
