Selective Customer Service Dated: 11/22/2016: I have heard that Marie Callender's was a place where you could receive a good "home-cooked meal" and that the atmosphere had the same feeling. I am new to Sacramento and I saw a Marie Callender's across the way from my bank, so I thought after my banking I would give it a try for lunch. I walked in and and looked about, there was a long line formed for the legendary pies and no waiting to be seated. So I discerned there was 2 lines. I got in the line to be served. Before me was a lady on the phone speaking to someone and writing as she spoke. So I waited. When she got off the phone she just left without asking if I wanted to be seated. Okay, so I thought she was part of management. Then I saw the waitress. I waited for for her to address me since I was standing at the threshold of the dining area. She saw me but never acknowledge me. She maneuvered here way around me as I picked through the menus at what seemed to be a "wait to be seated by the hostess" area. Since she was still not acknowledging me, I sat down with a menu and looked through it. The waitress never spoke to me. She waiting on customers to my right and cleaned tables to my left. As she passed me she looked at me and kept walking by. I decided to get up and ask the young man working behind the pies counter if there was in fact two lines. He said no there was only one line. I got into the long line and waited about 3 seconds before leaving the restaurant. The waitress looked my way, turned and went about her duties never speaking at all. In my opinion, this type of unfriendly conduct by employees is inexcusable. Someone should have acknowledged me as a customer. The cold shoulder was blatent and deliberate. It reminded me of the few times in my life where I was deliberately denied service as an African American. there are people who would say that African American's are too sensitive and yet what I have to say about that is: You have to experience this type of treatment to identify what it truly is and how it truly feels. I am not mistaken about the treatment I received at Marie Callender's on Freeport, Sacramento. It was definitely racism. Their treatment (waitress) cannot excuse her actions with simply that she was busy. She wasn't too busy enough to stop and ask me what I wanted to order. She chose not to. Therefore, I will never go there again and experience the same and I am writing this so that other African Americans know what type of establishment this is before they enter, if they decide to. I give this establishment a MINUS STAR for their SELECTIVE...
Read moreWe did a takeout order on October 31st and it turned out to be the worst experience ever. I ordered a Frisco burger and for some reason the website would only let me order fruit as the side dish. In the notes I asked for French fries instead of fruit and my burger well done. When we picked up our food I asked if they included the French fries and the gentleman who later said he was the manager said that he was confused about the fries but would make me an order. When I got home and checked my bag the Frisco burger was with chicken. I decided that I would just eat the sandwich and more on. I bit into the sandwich and it was tougher than any chicken sandwich I've ever had and I realized it wasn't cooked thoroughly. I immediately called the restaurant and I talked to the same guy who acknowledged that he was the manager, I told him about the issue and he said that my order confused him. I questioned why no one called me to ask if I wanted the burger since I noted that I wanted it well done, we could have cleared up any confusion before I arrived. I told him that I would bring it back on the next day and I wanted a refund. He agreed. When I arrived the next day, he didn't want to see the raw chicken sandwich, he never apologized for the food or the $5 a gallon gas I spent to bring it back, he wanted me out of the restaurant as quickly as possible. I emailed the corporate office the next day and as of right now I've...
Read moreRude manager - when I called the day before to make reservations for 1 pm, he said I didn't need any reservations; that they had plenty of tables. I said I didn't want to sit in booths with 7 -8 of us. He said there wouldn't be a problem. Image my shock when I went and the place was overflowing with people. No available seating for us. There were people who were leaving telling others "See you next Friday." But there several groups still waiting before us. We were finally seated. When we asked for separate checks, the male waiter said he had to ask the manager - but the table next to us were getting separate checks.... 45 minutes later, Lucia finally took our orders. She was nice but spread thin. She passed by several times after that asking if we needed more water or drinks or anything else. The manager never apologized for raising his voice at me. He never told me on the phone that they only take reservations for 8 or more or that they had regulars coming to lunch on fridays and that there wouldn't be any seating available at 1 pm. I used to work at this Marie Callender's while in college. The managers then never yelled at customers - nor at staff. Key lime pie wasn't very good....French dip was ok and better than the turkey lunch meat sandwich I had the last time; vegetable soup was ok. No need to go back there again. Things...
