Read moreA great experience! 1st visit to this established restaurant and bar. We arrived on a busy night to get the last remaining parking spot, and the dining room was full, but we found 2 stools in a cozy corner of the bar. The menu was basic, but the food was prepared exemplary. The bartender who served us was pleasant, available as needed, and never rushed us. She graciously checked back on us several times. Excellent, bottomless fresh brewed iced tea, food served on warmed plates, and an excellent view out the window to the lake. My friend ordered the potato soup, which was thick and chunky with uniquely shredded potatoes. I ordered the cod sandwich, and my only complaint might be the ratio of fish to bread. The bread was deliciously fresh and warm, but it overwhelmed the small amount of perfectly cooked fish. Also, I believe that the menu stated that all sandwiches are served with lettuce, tomato, and something else, but I only received a wilted piece of lettuce. The coleslaw was excellent and not overly sweet, which I do not like, and the chunky tartar sauce was totally delicious! We were allowed to sit and enjoy our after meal conversation without being rushed out. I would like to return in the summer to enjoy the lake view and more of the enticing menu items. . Return for 2nd visit on 4/6/2024, still fabulous. 👌 👏 👍 . Apparently, I forgot to notice on my last review that they have a huge additional parking lot across the street as well as additional parking below and in front of the restaurant next to the lake. When we arrived, we were told that there would be an hour wait for a table, but we were able to find two seats at the bar immediately. The hostess never had a smile on her face that we noticed throughout the evening. The place was busy, but the service was still fantastic as was the food. I got the cedar salmon dinner with baked potato and broccoli and again the bottomless iced tea. We did not wait long for our food, and we were allowed to enjoy our meal and even offered dessert with time to sit and chat before leaving. The salmon was perfectly prepared medium rare and moist with flavorful lemon caper sauce. Baked potato was also perfectly cooked. Unfortunately, the broccoli was not warm enough to melt the prepackaged butter. And my baked potato was much smaller than the one ordered by my companion. I got the coconut cream pie at the end and was disappointed as it had a strong burnt taste either from the crust or the burnt coconut on top. Trust me, I had that burnt taste in my mouth for the rest of the evening. I also ordered a cup of coffee, which was good, but I was never offered a refill. I would definitely return, and still, we enjoyed our dining experience, but I can't just list all the good without...
I grew up in the area and had never visited Silver Shores until the last few years. I will generally give a restaurant three chances unless they prove completely incompetent. Silver Shores has had their three strikes.
The people of the Conneaut Lake area seem to acknowledge Silver Shores as a 'fine dining' establishment. For the life of me, I have no idea why.
The first two times I have eaten at Silver Shores was 'off season,' which would be anything outside of the Memorial Day to Labor Day range. Silver Shores in the off-season is a pretty depressing place. It's empty, the menu is limited and the service is sparse.
I decided to give Silver Shores another try 'in season' to see what all the positive comments are about. My wife and I were seated. The server handed us a menu and took a drink order. I requested a Sangria. After a long period the waitress came back and said they don't have that wine and what they had was on the card on the table (7 selections). So, apparently we can establish the fact that neither the server nor the bartender has any idea what a Sangria is.
The 'in-season' menu is fairly narrow. There are four selections per category but the selections are rather similar. We ordered their cheese, spinach, artichoke, chicken dip. We also ordered our entrees, a Chicken dish and a Fish dish. The appetizer was okay. It was certainly nothing to write home about and rather pasty.
The chicken dish my wife ordered was acceptable, nothing special. I ordered stuffed Tilapia. Both dishes certainly took no real effort to make and the texture of the fish indicated to me that it was previously frozen. The pricing was certainly too steep for the items.
When we received our entrees I noticed another server placed a specials menu on the table next to us for a party being seated. It was certainly more interesting than the actual menu and I would have ordered from it had our server actually given us the chance.
When that server was listing the side dishes she also named three more than our server offered which we also would have selected.
I have given Silver Shores three solid chances to live up to its reputation. The only thing it has going for it is the view. We won't...
Read moreOut with the family for a boat ride and decided to stop in at the dock to eat like we have done many times. A family of 4 and a child ordered food which included 4 bags of expired chips that tasted like dog food, 6 months past the expiration. My half of the bill was $33.00 which was for 3 tacos, a cheeseburger, cheese sticks and a draft beer. The other half for our party also was over $30.00 for about the same. Anyway, the other party with me was upset about the expired chips, and he expressed his opinion about it to the waitress. No one came out to address the issue. Prior to leaving one of our party threw the chip bag in the flower bed, not the best decision on his part. Well the new owner came over and that’s what’s prompting this review. He was rude and got in the face of our party member who threw the bag, as stated by the owner, you did that over a bag of chips, don’t come back. So the phrase “over a bag of chips kinda bothered me. So let’s hash this out, over a bag of chips. What happened to a responsible owner who would say, sorry sir here’s a drink chip on me, I wasn’t aware that our products that are held for sale were expired. No, makes more sense to get in the face of a customer and tell him don’t come back. Well, he lost money all season now and years to come as my party won’t be spending money there anymore. Over a bag of chips. We are regulars to the lake for over 20 plus years, just a bag of chips. What happens when the owners alcohol sales are down and the owner has to rely on food sales, just a bag of chips. The burger was good but the other items were not to be bragged about, just a bag of chips. To top it off he made a scene for his buddy’s at the next table and opened one of the expired bags thus giving it to them as they all giggled and laughed at their hero. Just a bag of chips. Hope they enjoyed that bag of expired chips. Bad business practice here, don’t think this guy will be in the food business long but his alcohol sales will probably float him for a while. Never eat here again and he can keep his bag of...
