I heard by word of mouth that a soup dumpling spot had opened in St. Charles. With the area being notoriously underserved by small businesses and instead rife with corporate chains, I decided to pop in and check out Fanâs cuisine. The store front has lots of natural lighting and the inside is furnished with modern design. Upon entry I was immediately greeted by a friendly face at the counter who explained a few of the options offered. I ordered some chili oil wontons, steamed pork soup dumplings, pan fried pork soup dumplings, a coca-cola, and a grape tea. After I sat down after ordering, the server brought out drinks and food as they were prepared. There was chili oil, soy sauce, and plenty of napkins at the tables. The Coca-cola was a classic 12oz can, the grape tea was fruity, herbaceous and flavorful, to note the tea was on the sweet side, the chili oil wontons had a nice chewy mouth feel and were stuffed full, the chili oil was more sesame forward than chili forward, however the chili oil at the table is perfect for those wanting to add a little more spice and red pepper profile to their dish. The steamed dumplings were thick, and the pork was soft and juicy from the soup in the soup dumplings, the fried soup dumplings really stood out with a nice sear and complimentary sesame notes. Personally I was hoping for more mala and spice forward options, however I understand the demographic of St. Charles may not immediately scream spice connoisseurs. The overall experience was great, the restaurants team was friendly, the food good, and the prices werenât too high. The fried soup dumplings would be the first thing I would recommend to someone looking for something...
Read moreFood - fresh and hot and fast. Everything was cooked to order. When compared to another popular soup dumpling spot thatâs deeper in the St. Louis. They arenât the absolute best but they are worth trying. Their spring rolls were really good, but nothing to freak out about.
Service: Quick and non-memorable. But we got what we needed within time so itâs fine
Atmosphere: The decorations in here were great, the place was obviously clean and well kept. The music was appropriate for the theme of Asian cuisine and it kind of felt like you were actually experiencing another culture. Nothing drives me more crazy than going into a restaurant thatâs themed of a certain country and theyâre playing modern American music. The only thing that was very offputting is that they use Styrofoam plates? So it kind of messes up the aesthetic of the steam bun containers.
nevertheless it was delicious worth a shot of trying to see if you like it! I wouldnât recommend it to go because the soup of the soup dumpling soaks up into the outer layer. They also didnât have as much soup in each bite as I would like compared to soup buns Iâve had before, but I...
Read moreIn the past few years I have come to enjoy authentic Chinese cuisine after a lifetime of Missouri Chinese restaurants, which I still enjoy, but there is a difference. So on a recent trip to the St, Louis area we discovered Fanâs Asian Corner in St. Charles, Mo. serving soup dumplings and authentic Chinese sandwiches. The dumplings were like what I had in restaurants in Malaysia and China. Steamed were soft with a liquid in the interior with the shrimp. Pan fried was crispy but soft. The shrimp and cheese was a delicious combination. I was told that the sandwiches were a style that is specific to a particular area in China. The bread was soft and flaky. The pork was similar to pulled pork, but with different seasonings. The chicken was fried with a sweet, tangy sauce. We enjoyed the food so much that we ordered more to take home and it was just as delicious when reheated. We plan to visit again next time we are...
