I give this review with the best of intentions. I’m not a business owner nor entrepreneur and so I can only imagine the gumption and bravery it takes to start a new business, especially in food. I also give this review recognizing that I’m particular with donuts. Because I know google reviews can be important, I wanted to reach out non-publicly via phone, email, website, or Facebook message, but they’re isn’t anything to speak of. While I was in the store I heard what I imagine was one of the owners say they are open to feedback, so here I am.
The staff was kind and service was prompt.
Chocolate iced bavarian: IMO the “shiny”, “hard on the outside” style of icing they use cheapens the donut. It looks cheap and tastes cheap. The icing also had weak chocolate flavor. The dough and cream tasted good. Only could handle half of it.
Chocolate cake: The one we had had no icing but had a crumbly and sugary coating. I don’t know how this one was staying together. It felt like biting into sugary chocolate flavored wet sand. Very grainy and unpleasant. Two bites in and that was all we could handle.
Apple fritter: This was highlight of the batch and it was a fine fritter. I prefer the outside be a tad harder, but the flavor was good.
Fruity pebbles: Personally not fan of these cereal donuts as the cereal gets soft and chewy. It takes away from what should be the star…the donut.
Sausage cheese and jalapeño kolach: Looked good on the outside. The cheese and jalapeño were non-existent. I could not taste them. After biting into the kolach, the sausage inside looked like two microwaved rectangular sausages stacked atop each other. The sausage tasted a bit cheap. The dough was very thin, there was a bunch of open air inside the kolach. I would have loved for this to be a full dough with gooey cheese mixed with the jalapeño and sausage bits.
Unfortunately our visit ended with tossing almost half of the uneaten donuts we got. I hope they make some improvements otherwise our first visit will also...
Read moreI'm sad to write this because this place has a the BEST buttermilk bars I have ever had. This is why I couldn't fathom giving them a 1 star review. I previously wrote one about how great this place is.
Unfortunately, the last 4 Saturday's that we have come in for buttermilk bars they have been out. One weekend they told me they just "didn't make any that week". They only make them on Fridays and Saturdays so that’s why I always like to go on Saturday mornings. On my birthday the following weekend I wanted to make sure I got some so I pre-ordered 6 buttermilk bars for the following day because they are my favorite things in the world and they always seem to be out. When I went to pick up my custom order at the scheduled time they only had 4 of the 6 buttermilk bars I ordered and they were really dry and not nearly as good as all the other times I have had them. I was sad because I pre-ordered them knowing they haven't had any buttermilk bars left the 4 times I went in before that :( I wanted to give them another chance this weekend because I'm telling you this place is SO GOOD but they were all out again. I always try to come in early and this time they only had about 3 donuts left on the shelf (let alone zero the buttermilk bars) at 10:30am. They don’t close until 3:00!!
The employees are nice and the place is clean Im just tired of getting my hopes up now and I don't want to risk driving to the other side of town anymore just to be...
Read moreI pulled into the drive through this morning around 6AM. There were people in the lobby but I was the only one at the drive through. It appeared that the girl inside may have been working alone and was slammed with inside patrons so I had no problem with the fact that it took close to 20 minutes for her to get to me, after all, those amazing kolaches are worth every minute right?
When she did make it to me, she said I was supposed to have placed my order at the sign rather than pulling up to the window, and that I would have to pull around the store and get back in line, as it would be disrespectful to the woman behind me if she were to take my order now (seriously???). I mentioned that all I wanted were 3 kolaches and I was paying cash. She said she "would not serve me unless I went to the back of the line" which now had grown by several more cars.
I told her the same thing I will tell you. I will not be back. It's a shame because I have LOVED this place and nobody in town can come close to the amazing kolaches and other goods made here. I will miss this...
