So it was a typical Tuesday evening in Saint Paul. I had just gotten out of a meeting organizing renters against some slumlords in the building they live in. And you know, that kind of work can be pretty draining. Combined with the omnipresent pandemic, I was feeling pretty fried. Early in the day, I had been perusing google maps for hidden secrets of Saint Paul, one of my favorite past times. Just when I thought I'd found every secret place in Saint Paul, I stumbled across the Burger Dive on Bay Street. I scanned the reviews and thought "why not?". After calling in an order and coercing my nine months pregnant partner into our frozen car in the below zero temperatures, we sped down West 7th street with limited expectations. Upon seeing Burger Dive on Bay Street I thought "My oh my, that IS a dive bar". I walked in to a crowd of all kinds of folks humming "I heard it through the grapevine" around a circular bar. The bartender was friendly, and handed me my order; two mushroom and swiss burgers and a full order of fries. My partner and I pulled over next to the Schmidt Brewery and dug in. Son of a gun. This is one of, if not the best burger I've had in the Twin Cities. Now let me explain, I've been a foodie for years. I've been all over the world eating food and exploring the finest holes in the wall restaurants Europe and the Americas have to offer. And this my friends? This is a burger. This is not to be taken lightly. Parlour burger? Nope. Red cow? Nope. Matt's? Toss it out the window. 5-8 Club? Nuh uh. You want a burger? I say again. This is the burger for you. I could go on, but I'll let you find out about it yourself. And I also tell you. Now that you've read the review? Don't spill the beans. P.S. I almost posted this review without mentioning the fries and pickles. What a shame if I hadn't. They too, were superb. And yes, I did bring my own mayonnaise.

The burgers are absolutely fantastic! I went just to check them out cause I kept coming across this place on suggestion lists, and now I keep going back. The pretzel is boring, but the pierogis are so good I'd suggest stopping to check them out on their own if you're in the area. The service here is good and the staff are friendly, but one example stands out in particular. The first time I went there the faucet in the men's room had barely any water running, and though there was hand sanitizer it was still kinda ehhhhh. I told the bartender and she checked with someone else and told me they knew and were on it. She also volunteered the assurance that the staff all use hand sanitizer anyway. I'll admit, I thought, "Yeaaaaaah 'somebody' will take care of it. Whatever" cause, c'mon, that's how some places are. Not here at all. I went back two days later and that faucet worked better than my own at home. Very impressed that when they said they'd address something they really followed through and did it quickly. It speaks to being a place that actually cares about quality and service in all aspects. And again, the burgers are amazing šŸ‘Œ

The only thing that outshined the atmosphere and quality of the food was the charisma of the bartender. Miss Janea was attentive, tactful, and always seemed to be smiling and making sure the rest of us were having a good time. I had the Deviled Eggs, Mushroom ń Swiss, and Fries with a Heineken Zero. The Deviled Eggs were well presented, on a bed of lettuce, and topped with a cruton. Little strong on the mustard for my taste, though it added a slight kick. The Mushroom ń Swiss was cooked just right, tender with a reasonable amount of mushrooms and enough Swiss cheese to hold everything together. Served with a bag of kettle chips and a stack of cucumber slices. The Fries were crisp, salted just enough, and even tasted great just by themselves with no sauce. The Heineken Zero paired well with everything learning to the fact that the menu is definitely keeping hoppy drinks in mind. All in all TL;dr this was by far one of my most enjoyable lunch experiences of 2023.

I wasn’t super hungry so I got the deviled eggs and perogis as a side, thinking it’d be small and easy to share but unfortunately I’ve been throwing up since I left this place at 11pm last night, and it’s currently 3pm today. I’m not sure what food item gave me food poisoning but either way, I wouldn’t order the deviled eggs ever again simply because they were COVERED in salt and paprika. Now I’m the type of person who loves a lot of seasoning but on deviled eggs?? Definitely not 🤣 first bite I was hit with so much salt and paprika I started coughing, then I had my friend try one and he couldn’t handle it either. It also took way longer to bring out the deviled eggs than the rest of the food, so idk maybe it was just left sitting out and forgotten about, hence why I’ve been throwing up since last night. Literally every hour on the dot I’ve woken up to vomit, I used to love this place, had some bad experiences so we hadn’t been back and decided to go here last night and I think I’m going to stick with never coming here again. Mistakes happen, but this is unfortunately a common thing here. My mom and grandma have gotten food poisoning after eating here, but that was over a year ago so I had hoped it would be better ?? I guess not. It also wasn’t that busy, and our waitress was still being slow or just not coming back to our table very often which...

If i could give no star i would . Started off here for a girls night for my friends birthday on April 12th. I arrived first it was packed. I found a guy leaving so he offered his chair at the bar to me. I gladly took the seat there was then 2 other spots that open on both sides off me so i was able to save a seat for my friends. After about 10 minutes of sitting there and the bartender not even acknowledging me i had to get her attention. I asked what wine was available and before i could finish she just pushed a menu towards me and walks off. My friends arrive by then. She didn't come over and acknowledge them either yet again we had to ger her attention we then order drinks. The Margarita was sour not well mixed or balanced. The bartender comes over to the well to get a beer and makes eye contact so we say can we order food when your available. She replies after this drink .. well she made 3 drinks took 2 orders brought food out 15 minutes later she come back and with a attitude like what you guys want to order my friend says nothing now she immediately print out the tab and say ok here. My friend said i said i didn't want food then she turns around and print her tab and walk off. Never asking me and my other friend if we were hungry or nothing so we decided to leave .. The night started off horrible with her attitude and lack of being...
