We had a disappointing experience this morning that left me flustered and stressed for the rest of the morning. We arrived for breakfast with 4 adults and 1 baby. Walking up my baby started crying and fussing so the other adults went in to order and I sat down at a 4 person table outside to feed him. Right as I put on my cover and was starting to feed him a server came out and asked if I was waiting on people or were they inside and I replied they are in line to order. And the server said someone ahead of us wants to sit here and placed two sets of silverware down on the 4 top. My baby was fussing under my cover and i had to get up mid feeding. Now I know typically you need to order first then get your table but with the circumstances of trying to feed and calm my baby and my husband just being a few people back I think it would be courteous to give a mom feeding her baby a pass. The most upsetting was my husband was third in line and the 2 people in front of him requested that table from the server so they hadn't placed their order yet either, and there were also open 2 tops inside and outside. So if the rule is you must order first, they claimed a table before ordering as well, and held down a 4 top with 2 people. All in all it left me feeling very upset and also embarrassed to get up while fumbling to cover up with others watching outside and like I was not at all accommodated for as a mother trying to feed her child and also enjoy being out for...
Read moreIf you don't want service but want to pay top dollar go here . You stand in line to order at the cashier . She takes the order gives you a marker for the table . The food came out a order at a time . Wife received her croissant. Two minutes later Daughter received her roll . So we are sitting waiting for my order and drinks . My daughter received her hot chocolate (not hot) tasted like swiss miss hot cocoa . Another 5 minutes later I get the biscuits and gravy . Still no drinks for me and the wife . I ask the server about drinks ? She gives me a can of coke for my wife and a empty cup for coffee and just points at the coffee warmers/containers on the counter . So I go to get coffee one pot empty the other luke warm coffee. The Pork and bison sage gravy and biscuit not very tasty plan dull no real flavor to it at all. No real seating for more than two at a time had to push two tables together to seat three. Some people may like it but not for us . If i'm paying $2.25 for a CAN of coke $4.00 per croissant $2.75 for a cup of cold coffee $11.15 for one biscuit and tasteless gravy. I forgot how much the COLD hot cocoa was. Had to be 3 or 4 dollars bill was $29 and change. But really poor service cold coffee, canned soda, tasteless biscuits and gravy. then this is the place for you . Much better food at the Uptowner on Grand Ave or the Capital View on Smith St.
Won't be back to the Colossal on Como Ave ever. Probably won't try the other...
Read moreI cannot speak highly enough of our Easter brunch this morning from Colossal Cafe. It was perfection and made our holiday so easy. Everything was delicious - there wasn’t a single dish that I wouldn’t order again. We got the egg bake with peas and leeks, scalloped potatoes, veggie pot pie, biscuits with strawberry jam, monkey bread and a cinnamon roll. All of this cost only $66 and fed five hungry people, and we have a lot of leftovers. Plus, everything was perfectly par baked so that it all took thirty minutes at the same temperature in the oven. It was so easy and straightforward. No waking up early, no trying to juggle different times or oven temperatures, and absolute perfection in every dish. The monkey bread especially was devoured in less than 90 seconds. I also really appreciated the many vegetarian options. The pot pie was very robust - and look at that crust! The biscuits and homemade jam were a treat. I wish I had taken more photos before everything was obliterated. I don’t know why I would ever cook my own Easter brunch when Colossal can do it for me (and at $13 per person). Thank you, Colossal Cafe!! Can’t wait...
