When it comes to satisfying a picky eater, especially one with a penchant for pizza, few places manage to hit the mark quite like Mario’s Pizza in St. Paul. As a parent constantly seeking new culinary adventures for my children, Mario’s delivered an experience that was nothing short of extraordinary.
Upon entering Mario’s, the ambiance instantly embraced us with its warm, inviting atmosphere. The aroma of freshly baked dough and the tangy scent of authentic Italian spices filled the air, setting the stage for a memorable meal. My children, notorious for their singular pizza diet, were already captivated by the sights and smells.
Mario’s specializes in Italian-style square pizzas, with their Sicilian style being a standout. Each slice boasted a perfect balance of crunchy, airy crust and rich, flavorful toppings. We opted for a combination of pepperoni and sausage, staying true to my children’s favorites. The Green Mill pizza sauce, which we often use at home, was matched by Mario’s own sauce that had a depth of flavor, marrying sweetness and acidity in a delightful symphony.
The garlic cheese bread was a revelation. These were not your average garlic breadsticks; they were more akin to the sophisticated delight of cacio de Pepe, with a Minnesota twist. The bread was light yet hearty, smothered in a garlic butter that was both pungent and mellow, topped with a generous layer of gooey, melted cheese. Each bite was a harmonious blend of crisp exterior and soft, cheesy interior.
Mario’s innovative approach shone through with their garlic cheese bread donuts. These delectable starters were lush, offering a surprising yet delightful take on savory donuts. The texture was spot-on—crisp on the outside, pillowy soft inside, with a rich garlic flavor that danced on the palate.
For dessert, we indulged in zeppole donuts. These traditional Italian treats were the perfect ending to our meal. Light, airy, and dusted with just the right amount of powdered sugar, they were a sweet counterpoint to the savory dishes we enjoyed earlier.
The service at Mario’s was impeccable. The staff was attentive, ensuring that our dining experience was nothing short of perfect. They were knowledgeable about the menu and provided excellent recommendations, enhancing our visit.
Mario’s Pizza in St. Paul is more than just a pizza joint; it’s a culinary haven for those who appreciate authentic Italian flavors and innovative dishes. For a family with a picky eater, finding a place that pleases everyone is a rare gem. Mario’s not only met but exceeded our expectations, making it a must-visit spot for anyone in search of exceptional pizza and beyond.
In summary, if you’re in St. Paul and craving a pizza experience that transcends the ordinary, Mario’s Pizza is the place to be. From their impeccable Sicilian-style pizzas to the delightful garlic cheese bread donuts and zeppole, every dish is crafted with care and passion. We’ll be returning soon, and I can’t wait to see what other culinary surprises Mario’s...
Read moreThis place is crazy expensive for what you get. The toppings are fresh, and I love old-world pepperoni. The garlic cheese donuts were interesting. I wasn't a fan of them, but thats my preference in taste as they seem other people would like them! The sauce was homemade but pretty basic. They at least use top ingredients, it seems. The workers were friendly and seemed happy!
It's deep-dish squares similar to jets pizza. I paid $41.54 for an online take out order. That was 8 squares of pizza and about 6 garlic cheese donut holes. It fed 2 people. The pizza is $18.00 for 8 squares of cheese, that are about about 6 to 8 inches by 4 to 5 inches per square. To add pepperoni, it's 4$ plus sausage is another 4$. Thats 8$ for less than a handful of ingredients.
Save your money. Go to a place that has value for their food. Especially in these times. Me and my 2 firends felt like we got ripped off. Especially since one friend went to get food else where because of the price and amount received for it. If you have no problem over paying for pizza or ingredients, then this is worth the try.
If the price per portion was better, then this place would have good potential. I couldn't feed 3 people off $41 of pizza and garlic cheese donuts (bread) that $41 was take out as well! No other pizza place do you pay that much and not be able to feed at least 3 people. Part of that was a $3.50 service fee. That was added on top of it being too expensive already. (The service fee that restaurants add for staff and operations, which is reasonable in other circumstances outside...

Ordered our favorite pizza, Sausage, mushrooms, and black olives, it's our go to pizza around town.
Their crust is a little thick, it is not a thin crust, but I like it. The pizza is a rectangle so every piece has some crust, like that.
Great balance of ingredients and flavor. Next time I will ask them to cook it a little more so the bottom gets crusty, less doughy.
Really solid little pizza joint, great to have it just across the river from us.
Still, so, Damn Good!
It's hard to get past the Hero sandwiches, to actually try more of their pizza. I've had the pizza once, I have stood in the place waiting for my Hero sandwiches, watching so many great looking pizza's coming out to the diners.
Got to meet Emm(sp?), the front of the house staff, wonderful women that keeps everything rocking and moving. They made my wings like I like them, a little less cooked than normal, leaves them nice and moist. Doll wants a more consistent amount of oil & vinegar on the sandwich, also a more consistent amount of mortadella. Some days it's piled high, some days, kinda light on the meat. ...
