The staff is awesome and helpful, and the library is organized, comfy and neat. My one large complaint would be the fact that kids are allowed to yell and play hide and seek/run and run around library at will when I was there. It's more the parents fault/responsibility to discipline their kids/keep them somewhat behaved; but could someone on staff be responsible for telling the parent/ kids to quiet their voices? Not trying to be grouch but I was raised as child to acknowledge that to be in certain places like a theater or library I needed to use a quiet voice and be well behaved; even at very young age. I blame the parents but it would nice if a high ranking member of the staff could say something to the parents and let them know it's not tolerated after warnings. I am sure I was the not only person in the library thinking this as these kids are running wild and yelling while I am trying to read. Or you need way more quiet rooms. It would be nice if the staff could say something of behalf of the adults in the library to the that come here for a little peace and quiet; that way I don't need to use a quiet room just to read. I don't think it's beyond scope of the staff to do. I accept that there will always be some noise but let's keep it within reason . Libraries are supposed to be somewhat quiet, not jungle gyms. If I behaved this way as an adult in library I can guarantee someone on the staff would say something lol. I like kids, but just cause they are young doesn't give the kid/the parent the right to have them running around and disturbing everyone else in the library . Not all of us find this behavior cute or ignorable . Just my 2...
Read moreFrustrating indifference. That's my summary of this library and 2/3 of the librarians with whom I've interacted at this library. I had been writing at one of their computers and stood up to take a brief phone call by the main door. In the meanwhile, the computer signed itself off and erased my work. One librarian claimed that there was a notification warning that this would happen, and they could explain how to block the computer from doing so. They did neither. I could also not find any such notification. Then, while trying to take another call, the second librarian stood up to tell me that phone calls were not permitted near to the door - even though no connection was otherwise possible. Finally there were the comments about how this was a public facility. Not all public facilities are as frustrating and indifferent as the Merriam Park Library. The two aforementioned librarians need a refresher course in...
