If you’re searching for the best wings in Tampa Bay, look no further than Kahuna Bar and Grill on Gandy Boulevard in St. Petersburg. This local legend has been serving the community for over 30 years, and after eight years as a loyal patron, I can confidently say there’s nowhere else like it.
The true standout is their signature Tim Harper’s Spiced Wings, a creation unique to Kahuna’s and beloved by locals. These wings are fried, tossed in medium sauce, grilled, then finished with a kick of Jerk seasoning—a flavor combination that’s both bold and unforgettable. They’re so good, you won’t even need dipping sauce. Tim Harper’s wings are frequently recommended by locals as a must-try and have rightly earned their reputation as the best in the area.
But the wings are just the beginning. Kahuna’s offers an extensive menu and drink specials that rival any pub in the region, making it a top spot for both food and fun. Whether you’re here for a casual meal, to catch the game, or enjoy the vibrant local crowd, the atmosphere is always welcoming and lively.
What truly sets Kahuna’s apart is its exceptional staff—from the leadership to the bartenders, cooks, and servers, every visit is met with genuine hospitality and top-notch service. It’s the kind of place where everyone knows your name, and you always feel at home.
As Toby Keith sang, “I love this bar”—and after one visit to Kahuna’s, you will too. For unbeatable wings, a stellar menu, and a true neighborhood vibe, Kahuna Bar and Grill is the gold standard in Tampa Bay.

Read moreI’m a regular local who often rides my e-bike or walks over to Kahuna’s Bar and Grill with my backpack to chill, grab a drink, and enjoy the vibes. Normally, the staff is friendly, welcoming, and the service is on point – especially on a holiday like Cinco de Mayo!
But today, something felt off. As I walked in with my backpack like I always do, I ordered a drink from the bartender who didn’t greet me properly or even ask if I wanted food. No follow-up. No vibe. Just cold service.
Then out of nowhere, a grown man wearing super tight jean shorts approaches me without a hello or any courtesy and says I need to take my backpack to my vehicle. Huh? I explained I’m a local and don’t drive here – I bike or walk.
There were no signs posted at the door or anywhere inside stating “no backpacks allowed,” so it felt very hostile and unnecessary. I was there just to have a good time on Cinco de Mayo, not be policed.
This is a heads-up to ownership: I love this place, but lately the service and energy are slipping downhill. I miss the welcoming vibe, great staff, and good customer service. Please bring that back!
Kahuna’s can do better.

Read moreMy first visit into Kahunas was on a Thursday night and at first, the atmosphere was great. Pretty decent band the locals seemed to enjoy it. The girl bartender with the blonde bun was really helpful and attentive — exactly the kind of service you hope for at a bar.
Unfortunately, my experience went downhill when I had to deal with the guy bartender with the red beard. For context, I prefer to pay my bill each time I get a drink since I’ve had issues in the past with leaving my card at bars. I know it’s a little extra work, but I always tip well and it gives me peace of mind. The bartender with the bun had no problem with this and handled it professionally.
When I tried to do the same with the guy with the red beard, he got rude fast. He told me there was a $10 minimum, which isn’t true since I had already paid my bill previously without issue. Instead of handling it professionally, he raised his voice, made comments, and overall acted very unprofessional. On top of that, I noticed he barely engaged with customers and often wasn’t even behind the bar.
It’s a shame because Kahunas has a good vibe and some great staff, but one bad bartender can really ruin...
