The only reason we went to Mori was since Hooks was closed for 2 weeks for the holidays. We debated leaving like the two parties before us had and going elsewhere. We should have trusted our instincts. With a party of four, one ordering a cooked hibachi meal and the other three ordering sushi, the food was timed that the hibachi came out way after the sushi diners were done with their dinners and got to sit, wait, and watch the fourth eat alone. My sushi partners rated the food bad. The fish was not fresh, the Miso soup as bad (this is an individual who has visited Japan repeatedly). Another sushi diner rated her sushi a 4 on a scale of 10. We'll see if there's any illness tonight. One sushi was supposed to come with roe and tempura flakes, but that was forgotten. The hibachi meal was nothing special. The tempura shrimp appetizer was OK, but was served with nothing like duck sauce, just plain. The vegetable egg rolls tasted like mush. You can get veg egg rolls at places like Hawkers or Hooks and they're delicious! We tried Mori since they had a Google rating of 4.7 (out of 5), which shows you can't trust those ratings. We would have done better going to Big Apple Buffet, which has been closed previously by the health department. Big Apple makes good sushi, but their health department closure makes my skin crawl. Mori appears to be a two persons operation, the cook and the waitress. We waited forever after we seated ourselves and the cook finally took our drink orders. Three tables were occupied at that time. Napkins are evidently rationed. Prices are not expensive, but you honestly get what you pay for at Mori. If you have to twist my arm to say something positive about Mori, at least they have bottles of low sodium and regular soy sauce on each table. My co-diners also commented about the early 2000 pop, R&B, and rap played at maximum volume causing you to have to huddle and shout to be heard while speaking. Not what you expect in a place that bills itself a Japanese restaurant. With so many restaurants to choose from in St. Petersburg, what a...
Read moreMori Sushi, is my absolute favorite, local, casual dining, sushi restaurant. I order from here, every week. Sometimes, multiple times a week.
Their food is always so fresh, well made, and so flavorful. They have something for every taste, on their Japanese food menu.
For example, they have an extensive sushi menu, as you might imagine. Elaborate sushi, topped with various sauces, and other toppings. Or if you're more into simple sushi, without too many ingredients, they of course offer that as well.
Mori Sushi, also has a few different selections of vegetable sushi rolls. Wich are great as a pallet cleanser. Or are a nice option for anyone who may want to try sushi, but are unable to eat raw fish.
Speaking of seafood free options. Mori Sushi have a great selection of Japanese rice, and noodle dishes, as well as a few non fish apatizer options. They really do have something for everyone.
The customer service is impeccable! The owners are extremely nice, and really value their customers. They're so hard working, and really go above and beyond to make sure everyone who eats at, or orders from Mori Sushi, has a satisfying dining experience.
They'll even go as far as to custom certain orders for me, when it comes to some food aversions I have.
I can't recommend Mori Sushi enough. Anyone who loves good, simple, fresh, flavorful, local Japanese food, with wonderful customer service; should...
Read moreSo far this was my worst sushi experience and quality combine. I am writing this review after i got food poisoning from this place. My husband and I was seated for 30mins before the lady come back to take our order. The restaurant seem a bit busy but there only 1 person taking order, serving and checkout. Seem like she running the whole restaurant while her husband alone doing all the cooking. We were trying to understand the situation that they were short on staff and didn't mind. It took them more than an hour for foods to come out. We got dinner specials sushi and sashimi combo 2. The sushi quality below buffet restaurant. I took a bit on Tuna sashimi and it taste like sponge after the water squirt out. Nothing on the plate taste fresh or decent. We try to finish because we don't want to wasted money but we couldn't. The chicken in the udon wasn't fresh either. After got back to the hotel I couldn't sleep because I feel like throwing up. I ate sushi weekly and like to try new places. So far this is the worst! I never had any problem or experience like this before. Make me wonder if the Florida sushi standard is that low? I am from Texas and to me this place sushi quality similar to a cheap buffet restaurant where I'm from. I dont want to write a hate comment but I really want to warned other about this place. I dont understand how they got good reviews when their sashimi wasn't pass...
