I stopped at 'Dairy Queen'🍦 in Salem📌 for a treat while riding around with my friend, and although it technically sufficed for a sweet treat, I kind of wish I'd have maybe gone somewhere else (at least on this day anyway). My friend ordered a small S'mores Blizzard🥛, and on top of it already being rather melted before she even started eating, it really didn't have many s'mores chunks and thus much flavor either, which was quite a bummer (*I had a few bites myself). Perhaps the Blizzard mixture just wasn't mixed/made thoroughly enough upon delivery, but either way I don't know why it was so melted already (maybe the freezer needs to be set colder🌡⬇️). Beyond this, I have to point out the fact that the physical location is rather odd and cumbersome as well. Because the small building is situated on a roughly 45 degree angled corner block that is continuously completely blacktopped behind it (including seamlessly with the neat vintage/retro 'Frostop' root-beer drive-in that has unfortunately been sitting vacant for the past 15+ years), it makes parking🚗 rather confusing - people just pull in any which way because there is no sensible method, and I've even been trapped in (double/tripple parked) on a few occasions on particularly busy days. - Now believe me, I understand that this isn't really that bothersome or serious of an issue overall - especially with such a small business and in such a relatively small town - but I do think it could/(should) be remedied for safety purposes (before a serious accident is caused) and even simply for ease of access. (*I've even had a few people I know say that they don't know why Salem doesn't have a larger sit-down 'Dairy Queen' while other nearby (and even smaller) places (like nearby Leetonia) does ... this isn't for me to say. Plus, it really doesn't bother me either, seeing as I don't necessarily mind the quaint small corner stand-based place. But, I do think a town like this could support and enjoy a larger facility ..... hmm, perhaps the Dairy Queen franchise here could enlarge: buy, refurbish, and fuse with the neat vintage 'Frostop' building and thus make a neat repurposed and thriving 'sweet-treat corner'🍧🍦🍧. So, here's some "food for thought" (much pun intended - haha). All in all, I don't mean to rag on a familiar local business whatsoever, but rather just add a few objective comments and perhaps even personal suggestions that may be useful in helping this little place be all that...
Read moreDo not use this DQ, especially the drive through. You could probably drive from Salem to Columbiana or North Lima, and back before you ever get waited on in this drive through. They were not even busy when I got there. I pulled into the outside lane behind one other vehicle. There was one vehicle in the I side lane. They were waited on after a few moments and pulled around. The vehicle I. Front of me did not get to place their order for over 5 minutes. Another vehicle pulled into the inside lane. They finally took the order for the car in front of us and then we pulled up to the speaker. About another 5 minutes goes by and the inside lane pulled around. I waited another couple of minutes and still no one took my order. Another car pulled in to the inside lane. And then a few vehicles filled in behind both of us. After several more minutes the inside lane was greeted and told to wait. Then I got the same message. Shortly after, the inside lane got to place their order and pulled around. So if you wait there too long they apparently forget what order you came up to the speaker. After a few more minutes passed I said hello and they said I had to wait still. After waiting for another 2-3 minutes I finally left with out ever placing an order. I was in the drive through for a total of almost 20...
Read moreThis is the absolute worst DQ in history. They screw up EVERY SINGLE ORDER. I went when it opened and it was a disaster and I went a few times since and it is ALWAYS a disaster. I fault only one person the owner for hiring that evil woman that yells at the employees ALL DAY LONG. She yelled at this high school aged employee for making his hot fudge Sunday before he clocked out then he had to pay full price for his Sunday. I told the kid he should quit. She yelled at all the other employees for not being at there station. I ordered chicken strip basket and nobody was at the chicken station. After 10 minutes the evil manager asked me why I was there. I said I ordered the chicken strip basket that you took my order. She promptly turned around and started screaming at them for not making chicken when they were just instructed to make burgers and fries. She needs fired. The ice cream area is an absolute mess! Toppings everywhere, the floor, counters, tops of the machines? Ice cream spilled everywhere. I was there when someone ordered a snickers blizzard and he was handed a vanilla ice cream cone. He said I paid for a blizzard. They took the ice cream out of the cone scrapped into a cup added more ice cream and added oreos crumbs. Go to columbiana and save the headache this place...
