Junior’s Taqueria — Restaurant in Salem

I wanted to really like this place 1:3 things we purchased was authentic: atole, which is a traditional cornmeal drink was excellent. The food not so much. The super carnitas burrito had cubed meat, not carnitas, heavy on the sour cream and tomato sauce flavored rice that was not pleasant. The shrimp cocktail can best be described as ketchup flavored diced onion concoction that could not be improved on, so we fished the shrimp out to rinse them out, but they could not be salvaged. Other than that the side of fries was great, but we were going for Mexican food. I’m not sure I’m brave enough to spend $ trying them out, but perhaps some of their other menu items are better… then again a burrito is pretty basic and I would never try it again...

This little joint is way too good. I've been searching Salem for a good little place and I found it today. My picture is of their Gorditas, and they're superb. 3 for $9 and I could barely finish them due to the great portions they serve. They're so perfectly crisp and filled with meat of your choice, lettuce, sour cream, and cojita. Little pockets of flavor I'll be getting regularly.

Try this place out, if you're unsure, try the Gorditas with a meat of your choice, you won't be disappointed. I got my 3 with different meat in each (I'm sure vegetable-only is an option). The horchata is also light and thirst quenching.

I hadn't been here before, but I am so glad I know they are here! Juniors Taquiera was wonderful! Normally, I prefer to havethe green tomatillo salsa or avocado salsa, but my friend and co-worker recommend I try Juniors red sauce. I loved it! All of their tacos are much larger than the typical served on vendor trucks. Juniors uses 5-6 inch tortillas instead of the small 3 inch ones, but that's just more for your money. Their horchata hit the spot, for a nice refreshing, vibrant taste. Lastly, I wish I had ordered a serving of corn tortillas, only to put a second one around each taco, but this is just a preference, and certainly does not diminish my experience, at all!
