Mamma Rosa's — Restaurant in Salem

Went here last Sunday because the two places we really wanted to try were closed. It was between this and the Chinese buffet down the road. When you walk in the atmosphere is extremely underwhelming accompanied by a strange smell. We decided to check out the home style lunch buffet which costed $10 for a very small selection, and they also never refilled the bar the entire time we were there. The only thing my husband and I enjoyed from the entire meal was the mac and cheese which was mediocre at best, the yellow tinted chicken and dumplings, and the ribs. The corn was burnt from sitting so long and there was some disgusting looking black stuff that we couldn't decide whether it was supposed to be meatloaf or some kind of dessert. Ordered pizza to pick up and was told 25 minutes. It was over 45 minutes before we got there. Was told it would be about 10 minutes until the pizza would be done. They were super busy so I figured they were just running behind. 45 minutes later I had to ask for a refund because I had to pick my son up from practice. In the mean time I had watched other people pick up their orders, 2 of which were surprised that their orders were done so fast because they said it hadnt even been as long as they were told, which kind of made me wonder if it was my food they got. She did apologize and said that they should never tell anyone it will be less than 45 minutes (at this point it had been an hour and a half and my patience was long gone!) Used to live in the area and would enjoy dinner here with my in-laws roughly once per month and always enjoyed it very much! Not in Salem too often but was in the area on a Sunday and wanted to take a pizza home. Love the pizza and it’s just the same as I’ve always remembered it! It’s the only thing hubby and I have ever had from there and our only regret was not ordering more :) Upon calling to order it was about 40 minutes upon closing but they happily took my order and it was ready within 20 minutes! Upon arrival for pick up they were trying to clean up for the night and were working hard but were surprisingly very friendly, and that’s much appreciated as it seems hard to get that anymore!
